NEED TO KNOW
Wicked might not be over For Good.
Nearly one year after the release of the Jon M. Chu-directed Wicked adaptation, Wicked: For Good premiered in theaters on Nov. 21, 2025, giving fans the epic conclusion to Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo) and Glinda (Ariana Grande) stories.
Chu first anounced that the film would be split into two parts in an April 2022 post on X, explaining that after preparing for production, “it became increasingly clear that it would be impossible to wrestle the story of WICKED into a single film without doing some real damage to it.”
But, he made it clear that he intended for viewers to see “both movies as one,” telling PEOPLE in October 2025 that he was “excited to complete the story for people.” Now that the movie is out in the world — and the cosplay-filled press tours and dazzling music specials have wrapped — fans are already begging for more of Glinda and Elphaba.
Although Universal Pictures has not announced any future follow-ups to the film, Oz offers no shortage of material that could be adapted for the big screen. In fact, L. Frank Baum, the author who originally wrote the 1900 novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz — which is what inspired Gregory Maguire’s 1995 novel Wicked — published 14 total books in the Oz book series.
So, will there be a Wicked 3? Here’s everything the cast and crew have said about returning to Oz.

A few days before the Wicked: For Good premiere, Grande shared a clip on her Instagram of her and Erivo discussing the film at a recent Q&A panel.
“You mentioned ‘farewell tour.’ If we’ve learned anything from Cher, we can count on there always being another farewell tour,” Grande joked in the beginning of the clip. “So I don’t think anyone’s going anywhere.”
A moderator on the panel then asked Grande, “Was that a confirmation of Wicked 3 just now?”
After laughs erupted in the audience, Grande replied, “No, no, I don’t know. I mean, first of all, I know that there’s a great peace that’s coming along with this coming out and I think there’s a peace that’s felt, because people will finally get to know the full truth of these women.”
She continued, “No one’s going anywhere. We’re not saying goodbye to anything. These characters will be a part of our hearts always. They’ve changed our lives irrevocably and permanently, and I’m so grateful for that.”

During a November 2025 conversation with Esquire, Jonathan Bailey — who portrays Fiyero — noted that he has “no idea” if there will be a sequel, but didn’t exactly write it off.
“I mean, the world is so incredible. Who knows? … I mean, all the characters have potential…,” Bailey said, though noted that Fiyero and Elphaba go on to have children in the book the production is based on.

He then shared that his 8-year-old daughter is “already writing” a Fiyero origin story.
“She wrote this whole beginning, that I actually really love,” the director said. “We’ll see. Let’s enjoy this ride first.”
Michelle Yeoh said she would “never” say no to Chu if he asked her about a third movie

Elsewhere at the New York premiere, Michelle Yeoh, who portrays Madame Morrible, told Variety that she’d be all in for another movie if Chu proposed it.
“There’s nothing that needs to go through my mind. If Jon M. Chu comes up to me, I’ll say, ‘Yes,’ ” she said. “He’s brilliant. Why would I ever say no to him? Never.”

While Yeoh was all in on a third Wicked movie at the New York premiere, Bowen Yang, who plays Pfannee, had other thoughts while speaking with Variety.
“I think we leave it here,” he told the outlet, though had another idea for a potential spinoff.
“I’m going to pitch a ‘Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead’ story with my and Bronwyn James’ characters,” he said of his costar, who portrays ShenShen.
