NEED TO KNOW
Jonathan Scott and Zooey Deschanel are in no rush to tie the knot — and for a very good reason.
While speaking exclusively with PEOPLE about his new HGTV show, Chasing the West, Scott, 47, explained that he and Deschanel, 45, have been too busy enjoying quality time with their kids and working on other projects to even think about planning their wedding.
“We’ve just been having so much fun traveling with the kids and filming this show and stuff,” Scott tells PEOPLE. “So no, we have not actually made any plans yet, which, it’s been two years now since I proposed.”

The expert builder, who considers himself stepdad to Deschanel’s two children — daughter Elsie, 10, and son Charlie, 8 — from her previous marriage to Jacob Pechenik, notes that he and and his fiancee try to visit Europe “every single year.”
They recently spent time in Italy and France and got some “beach time” in as well, he says, so they’ve been busy making memories abroad.

Despite being booked and busy, Scott says he and Deschanel are still in agreement with how they want their wedding to be when the time comes.
“Whatever we do, it has to be meaningful to us and we want to gather our friends and family and have a good time,” he says, adding, “we want to keep it very, very intimate.”
Scott previously told PEOPLE in May 2024 that he and Deschanel plan on hosting a second festive event after celebrating with a smaller wedding ceremony first.
“We’re not planning to do a crazy, extravagant wedding,” he said at the time, adding, “We will probably throw another party just for friends here locally [in L.A.].”
The couple currently live in their 1938 “dream home” that they finished renovating in 2022 after two years.
The Celebrity IOU host officially popped the question to the New Girl alum in August 2023 while the pair were enjoying a family vacation together in Scotland. He even got Elsie and Charlie involved in the special moment by having them pull out a banner that read, “Zooey, will you marry me” during the magical proposal at Edinburgh Castle.
The milestone came four years after the couple first met while filming an episode of Carpool Karaoke with Jonathan’s twin brother Drew and Zooey’s sister Emily Deschanel in August 2019.

While the pair have been settled in Los Angeles together for years now, Jonathan opened up to PEOPLE about the possibility of relocating out to the country.
He noted that his new HGTV show Chasing the West made him miss his ranching roots as he grew up on a sprawling, 160-acre property in western Canada. In the show, he and Drew pull from their experience living on a ranch to help buyers find their dream properties equipped with acres of land.
While he may miss ranch life, Jonathan explained to PEOPLE that his fiancée might not be up for a big move like that.

While referencing the Physical star’s passion for horseback riding, Jonathan noted that although Deschanel would love to be surrounded by open land, all the “dirty work” she’d have to do might deter her from fully embracing it.

“She’s an equestrian. She used to jump. So she loves having horses, loves having space,” he explained. “I think she’s not so much into the dirty work of the ranch, but she definitely is into having the space and room to run.”
