Singing atop the Eiffel Tower was magical and scary for Christina Aguilera.
On Tuesday, Dec. 9, the pop star, 44, appeared on The Jennifer Hudson Show to promote her upcoming concert film Christina Aguilera: Christmas in Paris. During the interview, Aguilera got candid about what it was really like to perform at the top of the famed landmark.
“Singing atop the Eiffel Tower, that was…” she began. “I am terrified of heights. I don’t even do Ferris wheels because I’m so afraid of heights. It’s like I’ll do a coaster, but like don’t put me still above up in the air looking down.”
As a result, the “Genie in a Bottle” singer said, “I was literally terrified.”
She added, “There was a moment, I mean, you just go up and up and up, and I don’t like elevators either. So it’s like double whammy.”

Aguilera went on to explain to host Jennifer Hudson that she had a scary moment during her ride in the elevator to the top of the tower.
“It’s confined space and we’re like going up and you can see everything … like, you’re exposed, you can see all the things going up. And then there was a point where the guy in the elevator that was taking us up, he was like the elevator stopped all of a sudden. He was like, ‘That is not normal.’ And I was like, ‘What do you mean it’s not normal?’ ” she says.
Hudson, 44, assured Aguilera that the experience, scary though it may have been, “paid off.” The host said of the performance, “That was such a beautiful moment,” to which Aguilera added, “So magical.”

Christina Aguilera: Christmas in Paris coincides with the 25th anniversary of her holiday album, My Kind of Christmas. In addition to singing atop the Eiffel Tower, the “Beautiful” singer also performed an intimate concert featuring her singing Christmas classics and other hits for just 250 people on a winter-garden terrace above the Musée du Quai Branly.
Viewers will also see “dreamlike Parisian vignettes and a bold cabaret sequence inside the legendary Crazy Horse” in the film, per a press release.
The concert film is presented by Fathom Entertainment, Vertigo Live Productions and Roc Nation, and directed and executive produced by Sam Wrench (Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour, Billie Eilish: Live at the O2).
In the trailer, Aguilera says, “This film is a celebration. Paris at Christmas has a magic all of its own. There’s something so poetic about celebrating this milestone here — in a city that feels like pure inspiration.”
Christina Aguilera: Christmas in Paris will be in theaters nationwide only on Dec. 14 and Dec. 21.
