Who Is Scott Hoying’s Husband? All About Mark Hoying

Scott Hoying’s husband, Mark Hoying, has been his muse for almost a decade.

The Pentatonix singer first crossed paths with the former marketing professional at a birthday party and started dating soon after. A year after Scott popped the question in the Bahamas, they got married in a dreamy oceanside ceremony in July 2023.

“I knew pretty early on that Mark was my dream man and I genuinely feel like the luckiest man on earth to get to marry him,” Scott told PEOPLE at the time.

In addition to sharing sweet sentiments and funny moments from their life together, Scott and Mark have collaborated on numerous projects, including two children’s books and a children’s album.

Much of Scott’s solo career has been influenced by Mark. The singer told GLAAD in August 2023 that he started writing songs during the pandemic, most of which are about his husband, who is his “muse in so many ways.” Even his Grammy-nominated track “Rose Without the Thorns” was written for Mark as an anniversary gift.

On Dancing With the Stars season 34, Scott chose to honor Mark on Dedication Night. He and his partner, Rylee Arnold, will perform a foxtrot to Scott’s song “Parallel.”

Mark is from Seattle  

Mark is from Seattle, per his bio on Macmillan Publishers, and grew up in a Filipino household.

The writer has often spoken about his love for his “big, amazing Filipino family.” Following his wedding in 2023, he shared a TikTok video showing how his relatives coordinated a massive flash mob that they performed at the festivities.

The couple also paid homage to Mark’s heritage on their children’s album M.Y. F.A.M.I.L.Y.

They surprised Mark’s parents, who are from Manila, Philippines, by putting audio recordings of them saying Tagalog phrases in the song “Mahal Kita,” which means “I love you.”

They met at a party 

In 2017, Scott and Mark met at a birthday party for a mutual friend in Los Angeles. After that night, the two “started hanging every single day,” according to the Pentatonix singer.

“I remember being blown away at how warm, wholesome and sweet Mark was,” Scott told PEOPLE in July 2023. “It was such a refreshing energy that I couldn’t get enough of.”

In addition to being “the most handsome man” Mark had ever “laid eyes on,” he told PEOPLE that he was drawn to Scott’s magnetic aura. “He is truly one-of-a-kind,” he said. “He leads through life with such a unique, electrifying presence.”

He’s a writer and a band manager

According to Mark’s LinkedIn bio, he worked in public relations and marketing after graduating from the University of Washington in 2013.

A frequent collaborator of Scott’s, Mark co-wrote Pentatonix’s original Christmas single, “Thank You.” They also created a children’s album together in August 2025 titled M.Y. F.A.M.I.L.Y. Mark also manages the girl’s group Citizen Queen, which his husband helped form, per the Daily Trojan.

In addition to writing music, Scott and Mark have also written two children’s books. They released their first, How Lucky Am I?, in 2024, followed by their second picture book, Fa La La Family, in September 2025.

Scott and Mark got married in 2023

On July 7, 2023, Mark and Scott said their “I do’s” in a small, seaside ceremony in Santa Barbara, Calif. The couple chose the spot after spending Mark’s birthday there, with Scott telling PEOPLE that some of their “favorite, romantic, lifelong memories together are by the beach.”

Singer Christina Perri acted as the officiant while the grooms recreated their all-time favorite love song and scene from the 2018 film Crazy Rich Asians with the help of musician Kina Grannis, who sang her rendition of “Can’t Help Falling in Love” from the movie.

During the reception, Scott surprised his new husband by performing his song “Four,” which he wrote for Mark. “The song is one of my favorite songs I have ever written, as it is a love letter I dedicated to Mark after we had dated for four years, and I can barely sing it without crying,” the singer said.

Scott called Mark a “genuinely kind ray of sunshine” 

In detailing his love for Mark after their 2023 wedding, Scott told PEOPLE what it is about his husband that he adores so much.

“What I love about Mark is that he is the most loving, gentle, genuinely kind ray of sunshine that you’ll ever meet — always,” the singer explained.

He continued, “It’s like a superpower. He just loves life, loves people, loves every single part of me. I just know he is going to be the most amazing father in the world to our children.”

They started building their family in 2025

Even before they left for their honeymoon in 2023, Scott and Mark told PEOPLE they already discussed “starting a big ol’ family” every single day. In June 2025, the couple announced that their dream had already begun.

“We finally have a surrogate, so we’re closer,” Mark told PEOPLE at the Kids’ Choice Awards. “But next summer, we’ll have a baby for sure.”
