Hutson is a singer, songwriter and guitarist best known for his blend of folk, Americana and country music. He’s released three studio albums: Beginners (2020), Quitters (2022) and Paradise Pop. 10 (2024), all of which were co-produced by his longtime collaborator, Phoebe Bridgers.
He and Bridgers met through her guitarist, Harrison Whitford, and quickly formed a creative partnership, per Guitar.com.
“I felt so understood,” he said while speaking to The Line of Best Fit in September 2024. “Everyone else I worked with up until that point was like: ‘Yeah, you’re pretty good, but you’re not good enough. We’ve gotta figure out some kind of way that you’re not too weird.’ Phoebe was the first person that made me feel like I didn’t have to do anything other than go into the room and play the song.”
The “Lose This Number” singer has worked with several other famous artists, including Conor Oberst, Bridgers’ band Boygenius and Katy Kirby, among others.

Hutson was born in Kansas City, Mo., but was raised in Los Angeles. As a kid, he aspired to be an author, as he explained in his interview with The Line of Best Fit.
“I was an old man as a child,” he jokingly told the outlet. “My parents asked me what I wanted to do when I grew up and I was like: ‘I would like to write novels and short fiction.’ ”
After receiving a guitar as a gift at age 12, he found a new outlet for his love of storytelling.
“By the time I was 13 years old, I was like, ‘I don’t know if I could be a novelist now, but I like music,’ ” he continued. “Somebody showed me Bob Dylan, and then Joni Mitchell, and then Elliott Smith, and those things just made me realise that I could — with just the same three chords — write whatever I wanted to.”

The couple made their red carpet debut on April 14, 2025, at the opening night of Broadway’s John Proctor Is the Villain, which starred Sadie Sink, Hawke’s Stranger Things costar.
Hawke wore a pleated skirt, a leather trench coat and Prada loafers for the occasion, while Hutson donned an all-denim outfit paired with a brown turtleneck and white Converse sneakers.
Several other Stranger Things cast members attended the performance at N.Y.C.’s Booth Theatre to show their support for Sink, including Natalia Dyer, Gaten Matarazzo and Finn Wolfhard.

Hawke and Hutson kept their relationship platonic for four years before they took their connection to the next level. While appearing on the Zach Sang Show in June 2024, Hawke said she “cannot recommend” dating a friend enough.
“It’s the best,” she said. “They know you, they understand that you are a person and a human being who has dated other people … not just a piece of paper for them to project their image of a perfect girlfriend onto.”

While speaking to Rolling Stone that month, Hawke explained that Hutson got involved with the project through their mutual friend Ben Lazar Davis, who co-produced the album.
“It was instant chemistry between the two of us,” she said. “He wrote exactly what I heard in my head, but better. His music is the music that I would dream of making myself. He’s a brilliant person.”
Hawke reunited with Hutson for her third studio album, Chaos Angel, with Hutson serving as co-producer.
Around the same time, the “Mermaid Bar” singer contributed vocals to Hutson’s third studio album, Paradise Pop 10, and co-wrote several tracks.
