Ali Larter and her husband, Hayes MacArthur, have been together for more than 15 years.
The Landman actress and MacArthur, who has starred in Life As We Know It and How I Met Your Mother, first met on the set of Homo Erectus in 2005. Four years later, they got married.
The couple have welcomed two children since: son Theodore Hayes in 2010 and daughter Vivienne Margaret in 2015.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the family went on a road trip north and drove through the town of Sun Valley, Idaho. What was supposed to be a two-month adventure ended up becoming their new home.
“People look out for each other,” Larter told RUE Magazine in September 2024. “There’s a real sense of community here and we’re so happy to be a part of it.”
So who is Ali Larter’s husband? Here’s everything to know about comedian Hayes MacArthur and his relationship with the actress.

MacArthur was born in Chicago on April 16, 1977.
The actor is proud of his Illinois upbringing and has made clear on Instagram that while he raised his children in Los Angeles and Idaho, he has instilled in them a deep sense of Chicago pride.
In 2019, he shared a photo of him and his daughter in matching wetsuits in front of a California beach, writing in the caption, “Imagine the confusion when I tell her she’s really from Chicago.”
MacArthur appears to have also raised his children to be loyal to Chicago teams, sharing a snap on Instagram of him with both children in his arms, donning Cubs gear in 2019.

After graduating from Bowdoin College in 1999, MacArthur moved to L.A. to pursue comedy. He studied with the legendary comedy troupe The Groundlings, which boasts alums like Will Ferrell, Lisa Kudrow and Kristen Wiig.
MacArthur bonded with late-night host Seth Meyers over his past living with the comedian’s brother, Josh Meyers, as well as actor Ike Barinholtz. During a 2016 appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers, MacArthur joked about the house they lived in, which they referred to as Camp Hollywood.
“It was a camp in the way that you refer to [Guantánamo Bay] as a camp, it was an awful place,” he said, reminiscing on the rat infestation that the comedians dealt with while living there.

The MacArthurs have ties to Hollywood that date back generations.
MacArthur revealed an Old Hollywood connection in a tribute to his grandmother, Shirley, whom he credited as the woman who “put Coca Cola on the map,” in a series of posts supporting the SAG-AFTRA strike on Instagram.
MacArthur’s brother, Scott MacArthur, is also an actor, writer and producer best known for his roles in Running Point, No Hard Feelings and Fox’s The Mick.

Larter and MacArthur reportedly met while costarring in the comedy Homo Erectus in 2005. The two got engaged later in December 2007 after two years of dating.
The pair wed at MacArthur’s family estate in Kennebunkport, Maine, on Aug. 1, 2009. Larter wore a sweetheart neckline gown by Vera Wang, along with Jimmy Choo platform sandals.
They are parents of two children

Larter and MacArthur are the proud parents to two children. Their son, Teddy, was born on Dec. 20, 2010.
“To feel this life growing inside of me grounds me every day and really puts things into perspective about what’s important in life,” Larter told PEOPLE during her pregnancy. “It really is your health and your family.”
Their daughter, Vivienne, was born Jan. 15, 2015. After becoming a mom of two, Larter said she found it more challenging to balance all the different roles in her life.
“It’s figuring out that balance and somehow trying to find some time for your husband and for work — and for yourself,” she told PEOPLE in May 2015.
They moved their family from L.A. to Idaho

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the couple made a big family decision.
Together with their two children and their Bernese Mountain dog, Nala, they packed up their home in L.A. and moved to a small town in Idaho. Larter told RUE Magazine in September 2024 that the move came after a family road trip north.
“We figured it was an opportunity to go on an adventure as a family, and we just started driving north,” she said.
The family drove into Sun Valley, Idaho, and was instantly captivated by its “quiet grandness.” The couple decided it was the place they would call home from that point on.
While the two are no longer located in Hollywood, the center of both of their careers, they’re not bothered by a long commute.
“Actors are natural nomads and travel is part of our DNA,” MacArthur said.
They’ve found the peace they were searching for in Idaho. MacArthur joked that their small town forces them to live at a slower pace.
“The mountains have a way of grounding you and slowing you down — especially when you’re stuck in traffic because there’s a herd of elk blocking the road,” he said.
