NEED TO KNOW
It’s been 25 years since Bring It On hit theaters, and the film’s cheer battles and iconic one-liners remain just as quotable today.
The teen comedy, which premiered on Aug. 25, 2000, is about the cutthroat world of competitive cheerleading. When Torrance Shipman (Kirsten Dunst) becomes captain of the Rancho Carne Toros, she discovers that their winning routines were stolen from a rival squad, the East Compton Clovers, led by Isis (Gabrielle Union). Determined to prove themselves, Torrance rallies her team to create an original routine and face the Clovers in the national championships.
Bring It On quickly became a global phenomenon, earning more than $90 million worldwide at the box office, per Box Office Mojo. The movie’s success led to six sequels, but none brought back the original stars.
In 2023, Union offered fans a spark of hope for a reunion when she told Variety, “We’ve been developing a sequel forever. But for folks who don’t exactly understand how long development can take in Hollywood, that could be five minutes or 50 years.”
The following year, Dunst spoke with Entertainment Tonight, saying she’d reprise her role as Torrance “as long as it’s not embarrassing.”
