NEED TO KNOW
The first word out of the Kansas City Chiefs’ camp about Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift’s engagement Tuesday came from an unlikely source: Mike Danna.
The news of Swift and Kelce’s engagement hit the internet towards the end of the Chiefs’ media availability following the team’s practice on Tuesday, Aug. 26, making Danna, 27, the last player to walk up to the podium — and the first since reporters had just found out about the engagement news on their phones.
“Man, I don’t know nothing!” the Chiefs defensive end said, laughing hysterically and waving his arms as the room of reporters started asking him questions about Kelce and his world-famous fiancée.
The reporters burst out into laughter, too, recognizing the hilarity of Danna being the one to deliver the team’s first message about the major pop culture news of the day — perhaps even the year.

After a moment, Danna gathered himself and offered a heartfelt reflection on the major milestone for America’s most popular couple: “Man, it’s incredible,” Kelce’s teammate said. “When I heard it, I was caught off guard. But it’s great for them. Man, that’s a blessing. Anytime you find that type of joy, happiness, and love, that’s a beautiful thing.”
Another reporter then asked Danna about how other players were reacting inside the Chiefs’ locker room, which made the defensive end laugh once more because players were just first finding out themselves.

“I just got told 30 seconds ago, so I don’t know if they even know!” Danna laughed again.
“I’m so happy for them, Trav and Taylor, like, that’s a wonderful time in life and a wonderful journey,” he said. “That’s a beautiful thing to see.”
Danna and Kelce have been teammates since 2020, when the defensive end was drafted by the then-defending Super Bowl champions. The teammates have gone on to win back-to-back Super Bowl titles together in 2023 and 2024, playing on opposite ends of the ball.
Kelce and Swift shared their internet-shattering engagement news shortly after noon local time while the team was practicing in Kansas City. Chiefs reporters caught Kelce on camera going through his usual everyday stretches and routine, while his and Swift’s posts on Instagram gathered tens of millions of likes within minutes.
“Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married 🧨,” their joint social media post read.
Patrick Mahomes and his wife Brittany Mahomes were among the first to congratulate the newly engaged couple.
“Two of the most genuine people meet & fall in love,” Brittany, 29, wrote in a post on Instagram Stories, while Patrick responded with heart emojis in his own post. “Just so happy for these two.”
