Tom Brady is constantly finding new ways to motivate his children.
The retired quarterback, 48, and his 16-year-old son Benjamin appeared on the recent episode of Instagram’s Carversations, where the father-son pair candidly spoke about social media use, online behavior and how they navigate these topics as a family.
During the conversation, Brady and the teen gave insight into their conversations on social media. While Benjamin admitted to sending funny, random videos, the dad of three said he tends to send more serious, motivational quotes.
“I think it’s funny to send you some goofy stuff on occasion,” Brady told his son, explaining his thought process behind his DMs. “But I think for the most part, if I’m going to share stuff with you, I want you to look at it and see a real value in it. Like, ‘Why would Dad send me that?'”
Elsewhere in the conversation, Brady asked his teen son what he would do if he had access to his father’s Instagram page for 24 hours. Immediately, Benjamin shared exactly what he’d do with the free-range access to all of Brady’s followers and industry connections.
“All right, so first of all, I want some cool clothes. I’m going to DM some really cool businesses, some really cool people, maybe like Travis Scott, Drake, some musicians I like. I’ll be like, ‘Hey, I need some clothes, I’m going to this thing. Make sure it’s a size smaller, though. I’ve started losing some muscle recently,’ ” Benjamin teased.
“So you’re going to pretend like you’re me?” Brady quipped.
“Yeah! I’m going to be you,” the teen replied.
In addition to his son Benjamin, Brady shares son John “Jack” Edward Thomas, 18, with his ex-girlfriend, actress Bridget Moynahan, and daughter Vivian Lake, 13, with his ex-wife Gisele Bündchen.
In a July entry of his weekly newsletter, Brady penned a message about finding fulfillment in life outside of the sports world. Brady also opened up about what he believes makes him a “great father.”
“I think part of being a great father is being a great example of doing what it takes to take care of your family,” he explained. “I chose to do it by playing football.”
“My dedication to the sport, the hours of practice, the moments when I was laser focused — those were times when I believe I was doing the best possible thing for my family and my kids, by prioritizing my profession and teaching, by example, what it takes to be really good at your job, what it takes to follow through on commitments, what it takes to be a great teammate; and showing them, also by example, that work is a big part of all of our lives.”

Brady went on to explain that there is more than one way to show up for your children and be a great parent.
“Remember, your children are watching everything. They see what you do in every aspect of your life and how you do it,” he wrote. “Reading bedtime stories and helping them with homework are not the only ways to be a great parent.”
“And neither is winning Super Bowls or MVPs,” he continued. “Being a great football player didn’t make me a great dad, but how I became a great player certainly had an impact — from showing up day in and day out, to doing whatever it took to get better, be successful, be a role model, and to provide.”
