NEED TO KNOW
Warning: This post contains spoilers for Nobody Wants This season 2.
Timothy Simons is standing by his character’s decisions in Nobody Wants This.
Simons, 47, plays Sasha, the brother of Adam Brody’s Noah in the Netflix hit. In season 2, the show follows the end of Sasha’s marriage to wife Esther (Jackie Tohn).
Simons and Tohn, 45, recently sat down with PEOPLE to discuss their roles and share their take on how the season ended.
“I think he was trying to deal with things without fixing the foundation,” Simons says of Sasha’s failed attempts to mend the relationship. “It just seems like wherever it goes, that’s something that needs to happen to really see what the root problems in their relationship are.”

Esther ultimately ends things with Sasha, leaving him to confide in Morgan (Justine Lupe), the sister of Noah’s girlfriend Joanne (Kristen Bell), despite their close friendship being part of the reason Esther doubts him throughout the season.
If he could give any advice to Sasha, Simons says he would tell him: “Hey, you’re doing great. Stay the course.”
“I don’t see anything wrong with what he’s doing,” the Veep alum quips. “He’s doing great. Perfect guy. You know what? Perfect guy. No flaws.”
When Tohn pokes fun Simons, questioning the sentiment that Sasha is a, “Perfect guy,” he adds: “I actually have a real answer for that. I think my advice for Sasha would be [do] what he’s doing, which is, don’t try to hold on too tight if she needs that. Give her space and let her figure it out. You can’t force somebody to be there.”
While he admits that he “was surprised a little bit” that Sasha and Esther’s storyline didn’t have a happy ending, he appreciated how honest it felt.
“It’s real,” Simons notes. “It doesn’t always work out, and maybe it still will, but right now is that weird part. And we’re putting it on TV.”

Tohn, on the other hand, says she “was a little bummed” when she first read the script.

“I was like, they went through so much in season 1,” the actress says. “She was so fervently, ‘That’s my man, and you better get away from him.’ But I think that that shook her up and made her go, like, ‘Well, wait a minute. I need to take a step back. What do I even want here?’ And then I think I was a little confused as I think the audience will be, because Sasha and Esther have so many cute conversations and fun relationship things, and the little after-sex and sink T-shirt and the walk the next day and the dance.”
“There’s so much cute stuff happening between them, but given all of that, still she has questions,” she continues before agreeing with Simons: “I like that because it’s just so real.”
The second season of Nobody Wants This is out now on Netflix.
