NEED TO KNOW
The Summer I Turned Pretty is not over.
On Wednesday, Sept. 17, Prime Video announced that the beloved series based on Jenny Han’s bestselling trilogy of books will return for a movie, which will serve as the conclusion of the story.
No details have been confirmed about what the plot of the movie will be, but the feature film will be written and directed by Han, and will see both Lola Tung and Christopher Briney return as Belly and Conrad, respectively.
In a statement, Han said, “There is another big milestone left in Belly’s journey, and I thought only a movie could give it its proper due. I’m so grateful to Prime Video for continuing to support my vision for this story and for making it possible to share this final chapter with the fans.”

Amazon MGM head of film Courtenay Valenti and Vernon Sanders, Global Head of Television at Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios also commented on the news in a press release.
“The Summer I Turned Pretty has struck a chord with audiences everywhere, creating moments of joy, nostalgia, and connection that have made it a global sensation,” their statement read. “We’re proud of the series’ extraordinary success and couldn’t be more excited to partner again with Jenny Han to bring fans an unforgettable next chapter.”
The news comes just hours after the final episode of the TV show dropped, and saw Belly choose Conrad once and for all.
He surprised her in Paris hours before she turned 22, and they spent the day together, seeing Paris through her eyes, before he again confessed his love for her. She was hesitant at first, but decided to go with her gut and choose him.
“I have brown hair and brown eyes, and I will always love Conrad Fisher,” Belly said in a voiceover. Then, she told him, while wearing the infinity necklace from season 1, “Conrad, I choose you, of my own free will. If there are infinite worlds, every version of me chooses you, in every one of them.”

The episode — which was both a season and series finale — ended with Belly returning to the Cousins Beach house after a few years away, with Conrad by her side. “And just as it always had, the beach house held a million promises of summer,” she said in a final voiceover, as the couple walked inside and through the house, out to the back pool to admire the view. “And what just might be.”
The final episode also gave fans updates on Taylor (Rain Spencer) and Steven’s (Sean Kaufman) relationship, as well as how Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno) is doing.
Taylor decided to move to San Francisco with Steven, whose business idea with Denise (Isabella Briggs) got an initial round of seed money. Jeremiah, meanwhile, explored a new romance of his own with Denise, whom he’d been living with for the last six months.

Han, who served as showrunner on the series from its 2022 premiere, had teased the possibility of a continuation of the story in a handwritten letter included in the end credits scene of the finale.
In the letter, she thanked fans for “the love you’ve shown The Summer I Turned Pretty all these years,” as she wrote, “We put our whole hearts into this show, and we’re so thankful to you for coming along with us on the ride.”
Before she signed the letter, she teased, “Maybe we’ll meet again one summer in Cousins,” which hinted to fans that the door was open for more in the future.
