When Hamilton debuted Off-Broadway at The Public Theater on Jan. 20, 2015, it revolutionized musical theater in a fresh and funky way with its portrayal of the “bastard, orphan, son of a whore” who became America’s first secretary of the treasury.
From the visionary mind of Lin-Manuel Miranda and inspired by Ron Chernow’s 2004 biography of Alexander Hamilton, the musical quickly became a cultural phenomenon, praised for its electrifying performances and innovative fusion of hip-hop, R&B and classic show tunes. Its historic production also showcased an exceptionally talented and diverse cast, many of whom have achieved remarkable careers in film, television, music and other creative pursuits.
After transferring to Broadway in the summer of 2015 and winning 11 Tony Awards, a Grammy and a Pulitzer Prize among its plethora of accolades, Hamilton has left an indelible impression on theater enthusiasts and critics alike.
On June 8, 2025, Miranda and more than two dozen members of the original cast reunited at the 78th Tony Awards in honor of the musical’s 10th anniversary. The performance included a melody of songs from Hamilton, including “Non-Stop,” “My Shot,” “The Room Where it Happens” and more.

Lin-Manuel Miranda — who brought Alexander Hamilton to life as the musical’s creator, writer and composer — has not slowed down since the show’s debut in 2015.
He’s voiced characters like Fenton Crackshell-Cabrera/Gizmoduck on DuckTales and Major Tom on Bluey, as well as played Jack the lamplighter in Mary Poppins Returns (2018) alongside Emily Blunt. In 2021, Miranda cameoed as Piragüero in the movie adaptation of his first Broadway hit, In the Heights, and composed and voiced the titular character in the Netflix animated film Vivo.
Miranda wrote the music for Disney’s Moana (2016) and Encanto (2021), earning Oscar nominations for Best Original Song for each with “How Far I’ll Go” and “Dos Oruguitas,” and co-wrote original songs for Disney’s live-action remake of The Little Mermaid (2023), starring Halle Bailey. He also contributed music for Mufasa: The Lion King (2024), the prequel to Disney’s live-action The Lion King (2019).
He’s had TV roles such as Lee Scoresby on HBO’s sci-fi series His Dark Materials and Hermes on Percy Jackson and the Olympians. Per Deadline, Miranda will star alongside Diane Keaton, Richard Gere and Blake Lively in The Making Of, a romantic comedy written and produced by Ed Zwick and Marshall Herskovitz.
In 2024, Miranda collaborated with fellow playwright Eisa Davis on the musical project Warriors, a concept album themed after the 1979 film The Warriors. He’s also part of the 2024–2025 rotating cast of Broadway’s All In: Comedy About Love, a collection of writer Simon Rich’s short stories as performed by theater and comedy stars.
When he isn’t crafting stories for Broadway and Hollywood, Miranda spends time with his wife, Vanessa Nadal, and their two sons, Sebastian and Francisco.

For his exceptional turn as King George III in Hamilton, Jonathan Groff earned nominations for a Tony for best featured actor in a musical and an Emmy for outstanding supporting actor in a limited or anthology series or movie. Groff remained with the Hamilton cast when the show transferred to Broadway in the summer of 2015 and his career has only flourished since the musical.
