Robert Pattinson’s The Batman 2 gets closer to finally becoming reality, as Matt Reeves shares a huge DC update. While Robert Pattinson’s Batman will continue to exist in his own franchise outside James Gunn’s DC Universe, the road to his sequel has been a long one.
Since The Batman 2 was delayed until October 2027, fans have been speculating about what’s been going on with the highly anticipated sequel. With The Batman 2 filming set to happen at the end of this year, as previously revealed by Pattinson, the sequel just took a massive step forward.
After several reports about the progression of the script, Reeves has confirmed that The Batman 2 script is finally done. The filmmaker took to X to share the following post, featuring himself and The Batman 2 co-writer Mattson Tomlin to celebrate the completion of the script:
The photo features the duo with The Batman 2 script in front of them, with the cover page largely blurred out, with only Pattinson’s Bat-Symbol being clear at the top of the screenplay. Reeves added the caption, “Partners in Crime (Fighters),” as The Batman 2 will be the second project he works with Tomlin, after 2022’s The Batman.
What Matt Reeves’ The Batman 2 Update Means
With Reeves’ official update that The Batman 2 script has been finished, it finally puts to rest any speculation about it being canceled, despite Gunn having had to debunk the rumors multiple times. But as the screenplay has been completed, DC Studios will likely review it before fully approving it, although that may have already happened, based on Reeves’ post.
As The Batman 2 will be able to get further into pre-production, it also means that the DC installment will finally be able to start the casting process for any new characters in the sequel. If filming is still on track for the end of 2025, that means fans will be getting casting announcements throughout the fall.
For any of The Batman 2 cast members who are returning from the first movie, they will also finally be able to read the script and prepare for their next go-around playing their respective DC characters. This is definitely a huge deal for several of The Batman actors, after having been asked about the sequel in several interviews over the last few years.
Our Take On Matt Reeves’ The Batman 2 Update
Seeing Reeves finally confirm The Batman 2 script is done is incredibly satisfying, and the fact that he got to be the one to do it is even more rewarding, given how many incorrect rumors there were about his sequel no longer happening. What remains to be seen now, however, is who will be the new villain in The Batman 2, as there are plenty of options for Reeves.
It will also make the next couple of months very exciting, as there is bound to be more news on The Batman 2 than previously. Hopefully, since The Batman 2 won’t release until 2027, the wait will have been worth it.
