Tangled is officially set to return to the big screen, but this time in live-action!
After putting the project on pause in April, Disney is moving forward with its live-action Tangled movie. Deadline originally reported the news.
Michael Gracey, the director of The Greatest Showman, is attached to direct the remake of Disney’s 2010 animated film. Though casting has yet to be cemented, Scarlett Johansson, 40, is in talks to star as Mother Gothel, Rapunzel’s evil captor voiced by Donna Murphy in the original.
Tangled follows the story of Princess Rapunzel, who wears a crown of magical, long, blonde hair, escaping her secluded tower with the help of an outlaw, Flynn Rider. The original film, based on the Brothers Grimm story, features the voices of Mandy Moore as Rapunzel and Zachary Levi as Flynn.

The musical’s “I See the Light” earned an Oscar Nomination for Best Original Song.
Since the release of Tangled, the animated film has had two spinoffs: the 2021 short film Tangled Ever After and the 2017 TV series Rapunzel’s Tangled Adventure.
The stars of Tangled, Moore and Levi, reunited in a video for Walt Disney Animation Studios to celebrate its 10th anniversary November 2020.

“It was such an immense pleasure and joy,” Moore said. “Like Zach has said many of times, a bucket-list opportunity and experience, and one I’ll never forget. It’s just endless gratitude for all of the support people have shown the film over the years.”
“Thank you for believing in the film then, for continuing to believe in it now. For sharing it, for being enthusiastic about it,” Levi said.
Moore added, “We hope you enjoy it for years to come.”
