NEED TO KNOW
It’s been 20 years since fans were introduced to Supernatural’s Winchester brothers.
Created by Erik Kripke, the TV series — which premiered on Sept. 13, 2005 — followed Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) Winchester, brothers raised to hunt monsters after a demon killed their mother. Guided by their father, John Winchester (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), they crisscrossed the country in their iconic ’67 Chevy Impala, taking on everything from ghosts and werewolves to angels and demons.
As the show went on, the Winchester brothers uncovered a much larger battle between heaven and hell, joined by Castiel (Misha Collins), an angel who becomes their ally and family, and often clashing with figures like Crowley (Mark Sheppard), the witty king of hell. Over 15 seasons, Sam and Dean faced apocalyptic threats, including Lucifer, the Four Horsemen, and even God himself, all while struggling to hold onto their humanity and their bond as brothers.
“I don’t think we ever, ever thought that it would become what it has become,” Ackles told PEOPLE of Supernatural in July 2025. “It is a phenomenon. I wish I understood the formula. I truly feel like it was just a lightning strike, and I’m proud — and will forever be proud — of being a part of it.”
Padalecki, Ackles, and Collins have stayed close friends over the years. According to Ackles, they actually spend more time together than fans might expect, telling PEOPLE, “Honestly, at least once a month.”
Although Supernatural wrapped in 2020, fanatics of the series still have plenty to be excited about. Padalecki and Collins reunited with Ackles for eight episodes of the fifth and final season of his Prime Video series The Boys, which is expected to premiere sometime in 2026.
Here’s everything to know about where the cast of Supernatural is now.

Ackles was no stranger to making the ladies swoon when he walked into the Supernatural universe in 2005.
The actor had Days of Our Lives, Smallville and Dawson’s Creek on his résumé before he took on the role of demon slayer Dean Winchester in the hit CW show.
Following his stint on Supernatural, Ackles lent his voice to Batman: The Long Halloween, in which he played none other than Bruce Wayne himself. He also appeared in The Boys, Big Sky and reprised his role as Dean in The Winchesters, a prequel series to Supernatural.
Off-screen, Ackles has been married to his wife, Daneel Ackels, since 2010, and they share three children together: daughter Justice Jay, whom they welcomed in 2013, and twins Zeppelin Bram and Arrow Rhodes, who joined the family in 2016.

Playing Ackles’ on-screen sibling was Padalecki in the role of Sam Winchester.
Before signing on for Supernatural, Padalecki had a steady movie career, having appeared in A Ring of Endless Light, Cheaper by the Dozen and New York Minute, among others. He also appeared in Gilmore Girls for several seasons.
At the height of his heartthrob reign in the early aughts, Padalecki also starred in millennial nostalgic classics such as House of Wax and Friday the 13th. Most recently, Padalecki played the titular character Cordell Walker in The CW’s Walker, which aired its series finale in June 2024.
In real life, Padalecki shares his life with wife Genevieve, whom he met on the set of Supernatural back in 2008. The two got married in 2010 and went on to welcome three children: son Thomas “Tom” Colton in 2012, son Shepherd in 2013 and daughter Odette Elliott in 2017.

Collins’ résumé included appearances on Charmed, ER, Monk, CSI: NY, Without a Trace, NCIS and many other notable shows before he joined Supernatural.
Following his time as the angel Castiel — the Winchesters’ right-hand man — Collins snagged roles on the podcast series Bridgewater and Consumed. He also appeared in 13 episodes of The CW’s Gotham Knights.
Collins married Victoria Vantoch in October 2001 and later announced their split in the acknowledgments section of his 2021 book of poems titled Some Things I Still Can’t Tell You. The pair share son West and daughter Maison.
Jim Beaver as Bob Singer

Jim Beaver played the Winchesters’ Uncle Bobby, a voice of reason to the boys’ mayhem. The character became known for his catchphrase “idjit.”
Prior to joining the cast of Supernatural, Beaver had credits in TV shows and movies such as Matlock, Sister Act, Reasonable Doubts, Children of the Dark, The X-Files and many others. His latest credit is for playing Secretary of Defense Robert Singer in The Boys.
In 2022, the veteran actor filed for divorce from Sarah Spiegel after three years of marriage, per TMZ. He has a daughter, Madeline, from his previous marriage to actress Cecily Adams.

Expertly playing the king of hell was Sheppard, who already had a long list of credits, which included Charmed, Evil Eyes, Firefly and Unstoppable, among many other notable works.
After Supernatural, Sheppard appeared in Walker: Independence as well as Doom Patrol.
Sheppard has been married to his wife, Sarah Louise, since 2015. The couple share a daughter, Isabella, and Sheppard has two sons from his first marriage.
Mark Pellegrino as Lucifer

No stranger to playing bad guys, Mark Pellegrino’s role as Lucifer certainly gave the Winchesters a run for their money on Supernatural. However, the actor had previously played antagonists in shows such as Lost, Being Human, Dexter, Revolution and The Tomorrow People.
After his time on Supernatural, Pellegrino appeared in 13 Reasons Why, Underdeveloped, Class of ’09 and American Rust.
The actor has been married to Canadian director Tracy Pellegrino since 2008. He is a stepdad to her two children.
Jeffrey Dean Morgan as John Winchester

Playing Dean and Sam’s father truly brought Ackles, Padalecki and Jeffrey Dean Morgan close.
Not only did Ackles introduce Morgan to his wife, Hilarie Burton, back in 2009, but the trio also got matching tattoos at the wedding, which Ackles also officiated.
Though he played a rough and tumble tough demon hunter in Supernatural, the ladies first fell in love with Morgan when he played the ill-fated Denny Duquette on Grey’s Anatomy.
He has since become a household name and was one of the mainstays in The Walking Dead as well as The Walking Dead: Dead City.
Morgan and Burton share two children: a son, Augustus, and a daughter, George Virginia.
Samantha Smith as Mary Winchester

Samantha Smith played Sam and Dean’s mother, Mary Winchester. Though she was absent in the beginning, the character was a big part of the series’ plot, so when she was officially introduced in season 11, fans of the beloved show were elated.
Smith racked up even more credits following Supernatural, appearing in 9-1-1, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds and FBI: Most Wanted.
Rob Benedict as Chuck Shurley

Padalecki is not the only cast member who found love on the set of Supernatural. Rob Benedict, who played God on the series, also met his now-fiancée, Ruth Connell, on the hit show.
The couple got engaged in 2024, shortly before welcoming their first child together, Margaret Vivian, in January of that same year.
Outside of Supernatural, Benedict’s longstanding career features credits in The Mentalist, NCIS: Los Angeles, Head Case and Alias, among many other works.
Ruth Connell as Rowena MacLeod

Playing the mother of Crowley, a powerful witch in the series, was Ruth Connell as Rowena MacLeod.
Besides Supernatural, the Scottish actress also has credits in The Winchesters, LEGO The Incredibles, Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes, Doom Patrol and Dead Boy Detectives.
Richard Speight Jr. as Gabriel/The Trickster/Loki

Richard Speight Jr.’s character went by many monikers in Supernatural — Gabriel, Loki, the Trickster, Ed Coleman — often using his bag of tricks to get his way.
Besides playing the demigod, Speight Jr. has also appeared in Jericho, Kings of Con, Band of Brothers, Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders as well as The Winchesters.
Speight has been married to co-founder and CEO of El Mar Margaritas, Jaci Kathryn Hays, since 2003. The couple have three children.
Kim Rhodes as Sheriff Jody Mills

Most people would recognize Kim Rhodes for her role as Carey Martin on The Suite Life of Zack and Cody, and the actress didn’t trade in her matriarchal archetype when she joined Supernatural.
Rhodes played Sheriff Jody Mills, a civilian who aligned herself with the brothers after losing her husband and son. She later adopted two kids, Claire (Kathryn Newton) and Alex (Katherine Ramdeen).
In real life, Rhodes is mom to Tabitha Jane Hodges, whom she shares with her husband, Travis Hodges. The couple wed in 2005.
Genevieve Padalecki as Ruby

Genevieve Padalecki (neé Cortese) joined Supernatural as a demon named Ruby starting in season 4 of the show.
Before then, she starred in Death Valley, The Death Zone and Salted Nuts. She also joined her husband, Jared, in Walker and starred in the 2024 podcast series Consumed with Collins.
Osric Chau as Kevin Tran

Osric Chau played Kevin Tran, an AP high school student whose life gets turned upside down as he later becomes a prophet of God in the series.
The actor has also made appearances in Christmas at the Golden Dragon, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Star Trek: Discovery, The Flash and more.
Alexander Calvert as Jack Kline

Jack’s transformation from half-angel and half-human to becoming God was one of the most beloved plot lines of the show.
Prior to joining the show, Alexander Calvert, who played the character, also appeared in Arrow, The Edge of Seventeen, Scream: The TV Series and The Hillywood Show.
Most recently, he played Peter in Howard Goldberg’s Double Exposure, which premiered in 2024.
Felicia Day as Charlie Bradbury

Though she’s a familiar face, Felicia Day also has a major voice acting career. She has credits in My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, Monster Prom, Robot Chicken, Spider-Man, Family Guy: The Quest for Stuff, Be Cool, Scooby Doo! and more prominent works.
On Supernatural, she played nerdy hacker Charlie Bradbury, who practically became Sam and Dean’s little sister over the course of the series. Her death in season 10 remains one of the most talked-about in the show.
Day is a proud mom to daughter Calliope, whom she welcomed in 2017.
Lisa Berry as Billie

The Supernatural universe wouldn’t be complete without Billie, a.k.a. Death. Played by Lisa Berry, Billie gave the boys a run for their money for five seasons, until she met her end in season 15.
Berry’s other credits include Shadowhunters, Bad Blood, Ghostwriter, Slasher, Chucky and Beyond Black Beauty.
