NEED TO KNOW
Kelly Clarkson is peeling back the curtain on how some of today’s biggest hits came to be.
Songs & Stories with Kelly Clarkson, the four-part primetime special that will spotlight performances and intimate conversations between the “Stronger” vocalist and some of today’s most popular musicians, kicks off on Tuesday, Aug. 19. Each episode will feature a musician or group performing some of their biggest hits while sharing the stories behind the songs with the singer-turned-talk show host.
“Every song’s got a story, and this special gives us a chance to hear what’s behind the music straight from the artists who lived it,” the American Idol alum said in a release earlier this summer. “Getting to share the stage with them and hear about the moments that shaped their paths — and where they’re headed next — is pretty special.”
The primetime special is inspired by the Songs & Stories segment from The Kelly Clarkson Show, where the Grammy winner has previously welcomed artists such as Chris Martin, Alanis Morissette and Pink. Now, four more artists will take their turns in the spotlight, bringing even more memorable moments to come.
Here’s everything to know about the Songs & Stories with Kelly Clarkson release schedule, including when each of the four performers will be featured.

The four-week NBC special will feature performances and conversations with the Jonas Brothers, Gloria Estefan, Teddy Swims and Lizzo.
In the trailer clip, the “Lose Control” singer opens up about getting “so terrified of getting on stage” as a kid, while Estefan confirms that the CIA once approached her.
The sneak peek also features a brief snippet of Clarkson joining Lizzo for a duet of “Good As Hell” and the Jonas Brothers for a stripped-down version of their hit song “Sucker.”

Songs & Stories with Kelly Clarkson premieres on Aug. 19 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on NBC.
The first episode will feature the Jonas Brothers, who recently kicked off their JONAS20: Greetings From Your Hometown Tour. In a preview, Clarkson reminisced on the moment she first learned the Jonas Brothers had used her name in their 2006 hit, “Year 3000.”
“It was in a meet and greet and somebody [said], ‘Did you hear the Jonas Brothers song?’ and I was like ‘What, no?’ and they were like ‘They say your name!’ and I was like “What!” Clarkson recalled.
She continued, “I was like, ‘That’s so cool to be referenced in any way in pop culture — I love it.’ ”
The siblings explained that one of their earliest memories of performing together as a band happened at a festival that Clarkson was headlining in New Jersey in the 2000s, and they revealed how they used that experience to shape their careers.
“For like years as a way to get our foot in the door in interviews, we’d be like, ‘Yeah, we opened for Kelly Clarkson,'” Nick recalled. “We were not an opener — we were like in a parking lot on a B, B, B, C stage.”
Joe chimed in, “I handed out valet tickets.”
Clarkson proceeded to say they had to sing the song together so she could “yell” her name, and the artists joined together to perform a rendition of the track.
