Simu Liu enlisted Taylor Swift to help make his engagement to Allison Hsu extra special.
During his Dec. 15 appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings star, 36, revealed that he asked Swift, 36, to surprise his fiancée, a longtime Swiftie, with a congratulatory message after he popped the question in Paris, France.
“I’ll preface this by saying my fiancée works in music, so she’s a digital marketing executive, and she grew up a Swiftie. She loves Taylor Swift,” Liu said. “Taylor Swift’s songs and her music, that was a big part of the beginning of our relationship, was getting to know her through those songs, and why they meant so much to her.”

He continues, “I was like, ‘Well, there’s one person that would make this engagement so special,’ and I reached out — as if we’re BFFs, no I mean I met her a couple of times, she’s fantastic — I reached out to Taylor through her publicist and I said, ‘Hey, is there any way that I could convince you to make like a two-second video just to say congrats?’ And she literally two days later sent it over, and I was able to play it for her. And so Taylor Swift was the cherry on top.”
Hsu was overwhelmed with emotion when she saw the pop star’s video.
“She was really emotional before and then when I played that video, she just completely lost it,” Liu remembered.

Liu, who announced his engagement via a joint Instagram post on May 11, gushed that Swift is “absolutely just fantastic” and “so nice and so sweet.” Like Hsu, the actor is a longtime fan of Swift. From tweeting about his experience attending the Eras Tour with Hsu to chatting with Jimmy Kimmel about them attending the premiere of Swift’s concert film, Liu hasn’t by shy to share his admiration for the singer-songwriter.
On Valentine’s Day last year, Liu made a sweet reference to Swift her fiancé, Travis Kelce, in a loved up Instagram post with Hsu at Las Vegas’ Allegiant Stadium after the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers 25-22 to win the game.
He wrote, “happy valentines darling 🤍 id fly in from tokyo for your super bowl any day ;)” as a nod to Swift’s attendance at the NFL championship game in support of Kelce shortly after performing four consecutive concerts in Tokyo.
“Karma is the guy on the chiefs and my guy on the screen 🥰,” Hsu commented on Liu’s post, offering another reference to Swift and Kelce’s relationship and the musician’s song “Karma.”

Later that month while hosting the 2024 People’s Choice Awards, Liu made a joke about how Swift dominated pop culture that year, and made it known that he’s a Swiftie.
“Finally, for the most iconic pop culture moment of the year, who could forget that one little movie about a blonde American icon that had the entire country dressing up, dancing the night away, and making huge waves at the box office. I’m talking of course about Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour movie,” he said during his opening monologue on Feb. 18, 2024, tricking the audience into thinking he was referencing his own movie, Barbie.
He continued, “Oh, I’m sorry did you think I was gonna say the other — no, no. Look, I was a Swiftie long before I was Ken. Okay? Just wanted to be super clear where my loyalties lay. I’m a 1989 baby so Taylor and I, we’re bonding.”
