Patriots quarterback Drake Maye says his wife Ann Michael is a big competitor, too.
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Jan. 21 ahead of New England’s AFC Championship game against the Denver Broncos, the 23-year-old said he’s always competitive, whether it’s on the football field or playing games with Ann Michael, 22, who he called a “great athlete.”
“It could be board games,” Drake said in a video shared by WEEI reporter Tom Carroll.

The quarterback said his wife recently “started playing mahjong” but confessed to not having “gotten into that” yet. “But, something like that, or playing Battleship or cards or anything that goes with me playing her.”
The couple also “picked up tennis a little bit in the offseason,” Drake said, noting that he’s still trying to “take it easy on the shoulder a little bit” as the Patriots set their sights on the Lombardi.
“But she’s picked up tennis and she’ll try anything we can compete in. She’s a great athlete,” he said.
The quarterback spoke about his wife again in his Jan. 21 press conference when he was asked about his celebrations with friends and family on the field after the Patriots beat the Texans on Jan. 18.
Drake said he was “just enjoying it” all as he took photos at the snowy Gillette Stadium in a video shared on X. “My wife has gotten on me because a bunch of other people have gone onto the field after the game and we haven’t yet,” the Patriots star shared.
“It was pretty cool with the snow and just taking time to enjoy it with the people that I love,” Drake told reporters.
Ann Michael and Drake first met as teenagers before they both attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
After being selected by the Patriots in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft and playing his rookie season, Drake celebrated by proposing to Ann Michael. The couple tied the knot six months later, on June 21, 2025, at the Grandfather Golf and Country Club in Linville, N.C.
