Trailer for My Mother’s Wedding (2025)
NEED TO KNOW
Kristin Scott Thomas brings her real-life story to the big screen as director, writer, producer and star of the new film My Mother’s Wedding.
In theaters Aug. 8 after a 2023 Toronto International Film Festival premiere (when it was titled North Star), the new movie stars the British actress, 65, as a version of her own mother, with Scarlett Johansson, Sienna Miller and Emily Beecham as her daughters.
As the new trailer shows, their family reunion centers around the third wedding of Thomas’ character Diana, twice-widowed after her two previous husbands’ deaths.
“Over the weekend, the family gathers to celebrate the new marriage,” reads an official synopsis, “but mother and daughters alike are forced to revisit the past and confront the future, all with help from a colorful group of unexpected wedding guests.”

“I brought you up to be women, not just daughters,” Diana says in the trailer. Accusing her daughters of finding her fiancé “dull,” she adds, “He is the man I love.”
“He makes me happy. Which, when you all eventually grow up, you will learn is the most important thing,” she continues.
Co-writing with husband John Micklethwait, Thomas drew from real family history to inspire her directorial debut. The Slow Horses star was 5 years old when she lost her father, and 12 when she lost a stepfather — both Royal Navy pilots who died in service.
In My Mother’s Wedding, Miller’s character Victoria is a famous actress, while Beecham’s Georgina is a palliative nurse and Johansson’s Katherine is a captain in the Royal Navy. Among the film’s costars is Freida Pinto.
As the trailer shows, tensions run high in the English countryside as Diana’s daughters prepare for her third nuptials.
“This is my wedding — pull yourselves together!” she can be heard shouting at them.
