NEED TO KNOW
Diane Kruger’s life is turned upside down in the first trailer for Little Disasters.
On Monday, Oct. 27, Paramount+ unveiled the teaser for the forthcoming six-part limited series, which follows a group of expectant mothers seemingly at odds after one has to make an “excruciating decision” — setting up “a chain of events that ripples, fractures and nearly destroys not only their families but their entire friendship group,” per a synopsis.
The psychological thriller stars Kruger, 49, as “perfect stay-at-home mother” Jess, who in the teaser has to come to terms with the fact that her friend Liz (Jo Joyner) called social services on her over something she can’t explain.
“I’ve known you for 10 years,” she tells her friend. “How could you make that call?”

Per the synopsis from the streamer, Liz — an “on-duty ER nurse” — has to decide on making the social services call when Jess brings her baby girl to the hospital with “a head injury that she can’t explain.” The friend group, also consisting of Charlotte (Shelley Conn) and Mel (Emily Taaffe), then must deal with the consequences.
The 30-second teaser also gives a look at Jess’ “happy family” and “perfect marriage” before the hospital events unfold, as the friends question “what goes on behind closed doors.”
Little Disasters, which arrived earlier this year on Paramount+ in the U.K. and Ireland, premieres in the U.S. and in other locations on Dec. 11. Directed by Eva Sigurðardóttir, it also features performances from JJ Feild, Ben Bailey Smith, Patrick Baladi and Stephen Campbell Moore.
The story is based on the bestselling novel of the same name by Sarah Vaughan, which was published in 2020. Ruth Fowler and Amanda Duke adapted the story, with Ash Atalla, Alex Smith and Marianna Abbotts for Roughcut Television, Simon Judd for Fremantle, and Vaughan on board as executive producers.
Amid the show’s premiere in the U.K., Kruger told The Hollywood Reporter that Jess is a “very complex character.”
“I was incredibly drawn to her — the type of mother that she is aspiring to be,” she said. “I felt a lot of compassion for [Jess]. She is incredibly fierce, and would do anything for her children… It’s rare that you get offered a part that is equal parts strength and vulnerability and out of my own personal life, I could also bring a lot to the table.”
Those unfamiliar with the book, Kruger said, “will be taken on a journey that is really quite wild.” She described it as “a slow-burn, but as the episodes unfold, it accelerates in a way that leaves you breathless.”
Kruger, who is also in the midst of promoting her HBO Max series The Seduction, spoke with PEOPLE last week about her daughter Nova’s reaction to her children’s book, A Name From The Sky. After releasing the book in 2022, Kruger joked that her 7-year-old, who is also featured in it, called it “boring.” She shares Nova with fiancé Norman Reedus.
Little Disasters arrives in full on Dec. 11 on Paramount+ in the U.S., Canada, GSA, Italy and Latin America.
