NEED TO KNOW
Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze Jr. were all smiles as they stepped out hand in hand at the premiere for I Know What You Did Last Summer.
The actress, 48, and her husband, 49, walked the red carpet for the newest sequel in the slasher franchise at Los Angeles’ United Theater on Broadway on Monday, July 14.

Gellar arrived at the event in an Oscar de la Renta strapless butterfly-embroidered mini dress, which included baby blue, navy blue and bright orange details. She paired it with an orange leather geometric clutch and pointed-toe pumps, and accessorized with a tennis bracelet, silver fan earrings and several rings, including a statement diamond ring on her right hand.
Meanwhile, Prinze coordinated with his wife and wore a relaxed navy blue linen suit, atop a white shirt, completing his look with black leather loafers.
The couple’s appearance comes nearly 20 years after they attended the premiere of the original slasher movie in October 1997. The two, walking the red carpet separately at the time, were the epitome of the late 1990s while celebrating the film’s release at the GCC Galaxy Theatre in Hollywood, Calif.

Gellar met Prinze on the set of the 1997 original I Know What You Did Last Summer. In the sequel and original, Prinze plays Ray Bronson opposite returning costar Jennifer Love Hewitt, 46, who reprises her role as Julie James.
Prinze told PEOPLE earlier this month that returning to his role felt like a high school reunion. “You have no idea what’s changed, what’s the same,” he said. “You’re excited to show what you think you’re better at, you know what I mean? You hope they notice it. It was all those things.”
Gellar, meanwhile, does not appear onscreen in the movie, telling PEOPLE in October 2024, “I am dead.” (Her character, Helen Shivers, did not survive in the first installment.)

“When five friends inadvertently cause a deadly car accident, they cover up their involvement and make a pact to keep it a secret rather than face the consequences,” a synopsis teases for the new movie. “A year later, their past comes back to haunt them and they’re forced to confront a horrifying truth: someone knows what they did last summer…and is hell-bent on revenge.”
The logline adds, “As one by one the friends are stalked by a killer, they discover this has happened before, and they turn to two survivors of the legendary Southport Massacre of 1997 for help.”
I Know What You Did Last Summer debuts in theaters on Friday, July 18.
