Sally Field’s son Sam Greisman isn’t mincing words when it comes to same-sex marriage opponent Kim Davis.
In a recent post on X (formerly Twitter), Sam, 37, wrote, “Not this hideous bitch again.” His words were a response to headlines about a recent legal filing from Davis, 59, requesting that the U.S. Supreme Court overturn its 2015 decision that same-sex couples have the constitutional right to marry.
The court’s landmark decision in Obergefell v. Hodges stemmed from 16 same-sex couple plaintiffs in Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky, and Tennessee filing federal district court cases over their right to marriage licenses, leading to the legalization of gay marriage in all 50 states in 2015.
Davis, a former Kentucky county clerk, refused to grant marriage licenses to same-sex couples following Obergefell v. Hodges, citing religious exemption based on the Constitution’s first amendment. Several couples sued her in Miller v. Davis, which she appealed to the Supreme Court.
After that application to appeal was denied, Davis continued to refuse to issue marriage licenses and was arrested for contempt of court, spending almost a week behind bars. During that time, her deputies issued licenses in her stead. The mother of four, a Republican who identifies as an Apostolic Christian, then lost reelection in the county clerk position to a Democrat in 2018.
In 2023, a jury awarded gay couple David Ermold and David Moore $100,000, while in 2024, a federal judge also ruled that Davis must pay $260,000 in fees to attorneys representing those who sought marriage licenses from her office.
Davis’ actions sparked nationwide debate, leading both 2016 presidential election candidates Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump to weigh in. “Marriage equality is the law of the land. Officials should be held to their duty to uphold the law—end of story,” wrote Clinton on X at the time.
Reacting to her jail time, Trump said at the time that Davis would “have to go with” the Supreme Court’s ruling, adding, “The decision’s been made, and that is the law of the land.”

Sam, a writer-producer, wasn’t the only X user to call Davis out for hypocrisy over her upholding the sanctity of marriage after multiple divorces. The Wisconsin-based non-profit Freedom From Religion Foundation reacted by pointing out that divorce rates are lower under gay couples than straight couples, adding, “But, Kim Davis’s four marriages are really helping to skew the numbers in their favor.”
