Rosalía Says ‘Loneliness’ Is Her ‘Lesson in This Life’

The life of a successful recording artist comes with a price — just ask Rosalía.

In a recent appearance on the New York Times’ Popcast, the Spanish singer-songwriter — who released her fourth studio album Lux on Nov. 7 — was asked how she copes with loneliness.

“Loneliness is my lesson in this life,” Rosalía, 33, told the interviewers. “I struggle so much with feeling lonely. I really don’t like loneliness. I’m a very social person. I like to be surrounded by my friends. I like to be surrounded by my family.”

The “La Perla” singer added, “I love having a significant other and sharing with a significant other. I love affection. I think that I always need to believe that there’s a possibility of… have faith in love.”

When the interviewer pointed out that she’s a “romantic,” Rosalía said she was “too much” of one. Then, the interviewer said that being a romantic and a “serial monogamist” is a tough combination.

“I always find myself having to be in a different country that is not where I come from in order to do my job, in order to collaborate with the collaborators that I love to work with, in order to pursue this path,” the “La Fama” singer said.

She added, “I always have to isolate myself so much in order to go through creative process, even with partners.”

Rosalía then explained that it’s a difficult “balance” to want to give her significant other her all — but also pursue “the music and the art,” which she says can be “so jealous and demanding.”

“I think that loneliness is something I really struggle [with] but I’m — it’s a learning process,” she said.

When she does experience loneliness, she finds solace in listening to Nina Simone, taking a bath, eating ice cream, going for a walk and calling her sister.

Rosalía was last linked to actor Jeremy Allen White. They were first seen together in October 2023 and were spotted holding hands and kissing on numerous occasions afterward.

Their last sighting appeared to be in July 2024, when Rosalía joined the dad of two at a Mr. Beef pop-up event in Los Angeles to celebrate the season 3 premiere of The Bear.

In October, the actor, 34, was asked who his favorite Spanish artist is on a carpet, and he responded, “Rosalía, I love so much.”

He added, “She’s wonderful. She’s flamenco… Otherwise, no, nothing’s coming to mind.”

Rosalía was previously engaged to Puerto Rican star Rauw Alejandro, though they called it off in July 2023.
