NEED TO KNOW
Rami Malek will soon be singing on the big screen again.
The actor, 44, teased his upcoming movie musical The Man I Love while speaking with PEOPLE at Sony Pictures Classics and The Cinema Society’s Nuremberg special screening on Nov. 4.
On whether he’ll be singing in the anticipated film, he says, “Yes. Yeah, it’s a musical.”
“It’s a musical fantasia,” Malek continues. “It’s very exciting. We just finished, and I think we have something special on our hands. I’m smiling when I’m thinking about it, so that must be something.”

Malek last showcased his vocals in his Oscar-winning turn as Queen frontman Freddie Mercury in 2018’s Bohemian Rhapsody. However, the vocals featured in the movie aren’t solely Malek’s.
Instead, the actor explained in an interview at the time, “It’s an amalgamation of a few voices.” Sound artists later told Variety that the movie featured a mix of Malek’s voice, the real-life Mercury and singer Marc Martel.

Variety reported in September that Malek will star in Ira Sachs’s upcoming movie, The Man I Love. The film will take place in New York in the late ‘80s and is described as a “musical fantasia of a city under duress,” per the outlet.
Malek plays downtown artist Jimmy George, who exists “in an extraordinary moment between great illness and death when, still, all beauty and love is possible,” according to Variety.
Tom Sturridge, Luther Ford, Rebecca Hall and Ebon Moss-Bachrach are also in the cast. The movie does not yet have a release date.
Malek’s latest film Nuremberg features him as Lt. Col. Douglas Kelley, a U.S. Army psychiatrist tasked with analyzing the mental state of Adolf Hitler’s right-hand man Hermann Göring (Russell Crowe) and other Nazi officials in the aftermath of the Holocaust.
The movie, based on Jack El-Hai’s book The Nazi and the Psychiatrist, was written and directed by James Vanderbilt. It also stars Michael Shannon, Leo Woodall, Richard E. Grant, Colin Hanks, Mark O’Brien and John Slattery.

The Mr. Robot star also tells PEOPLE about what drew him to the movie, saying, “I’m quite strategic about the roles that I take. This was a really profound, poignant story that was surprising. I thought I knew about the Nuremberg trials. I did not know everything.”
“It was a fascinating story that needed to be told. It’s as relevant as ever right now, and I really just chased it down. I felt like I was a young actor trying to hunt something down. I called James Vanderbilt, and I said, ‘I’d really love to be a part of this.’ I’m sure a number of other actors wanted to as well, but it felt like an extraordinary opportunity,” he says.
Nuremberg is in theaters now.
