NEED TO KNOW
The Peaky Blinders story isn’t finished yet.
On Thursday, Oct. 2, Netflix and the BBC announced that the beloved story will continue as a sequel series, which has already been ordered for two seasons.
The series from creator Steven Knight will follow the events of the Peaky Blinders film, which is currently in post-production. And as Knight now reveals, it’ll also feature a “new generation of Shelbys.”
“I’m thrilled to be announcing this new chapter in the Peaky Blinders story,” Knight said in a statement. “Once again it will be rooted in Birmingham and will tell the story of a city rising from the ashes of the Birmingham blitz. The new generation of Shelbys have taken the wheel and it will be a hell of a ride.”

According to a logline from the streamer, the sequel series kicks off in Britain in 1953, after Birmingham builds “a better future out of concrete and steel.”
“In a new era of Steven Knight’s Peaky Blinders, the race to own Birmingham’s massive reconstruction project becomes a brutal contest of mythical dimensions,” the description reads. “This is a city of unprecedented opportunity and danger, with the Shelby family right at its blood-soaked heart.”

Produced by Kudos and Garrison Drama, the sequel will be executive-produced by original series star Cillian Murphy, Karen Wilson and Martin Haines (Kudos), Jamie Glazebrook (Garrison Drama), Jo McClellan (BBC) and Mona Qureshi and Toby Bentley for Netflix. Each season will feature six hour-long episodes.
Murphy, 49, starred in Peaky Blinders as leader Tommy Shelby for six seasons from 2013 to 2022. Helen McCrory, Paul Anderson, Sophie Rundle, Finn Cole, Tom Hardy and Anya Taylor-Joy and others rounded out the cast.
Netflix previously confirmed in June 2024 that Murphy’s gangster character would return for a new movie as a continuation of the series. He’s since discussed returning to the role in interviews, telling Rolling Stone in May 2023 that there’s “more story” to tell, but it “has to be right” for him to sign on. “Steve Knight wrote 36 hours of television, and we left on such a high. I’m really proud of that last series [season]. So, it would have to feel legitimate and justified to do more,” he said at the time.
Qureshi said in a statement that those involved in the sequel series “couldn’t be more excited to be embarking on a new chapter of Peaky Blinders with our wonderful partners at Kudos, Garrison Drama and the BBC.”
“There are few modern storytellers to match Steven Knight and we will be on the edge of our seats as he returns to the streets of Birmingham and to the next generation of the Shelby family. Along with our global audience, we are ready to be captivated anew!”

Lindsay Salt, director of BBC Drama, called the original series a “game-changing show” that “made a huge impact when it first came to our screens 12 years ago.”
“Steven has worked his magic once again and I can’t wait for his scripts to be brought to life when filming begins in Birmingham,” she said. “We are delighted to be working with Kudos, Garrison Drama and Netflix on this epic show. There’s plenty of drama for Peaky fans to look forward to!”
