‘Only Murders in the Building’ Season 5 Release Schedule: Everything to Know

The podcast isn’t over yet, because Only Murders in the Building has returned with a brand-new whodunit for season 5.

The comedic murder-mystery series following three unlikely neighbors — Charles (Steve Martin), Oliver (Martin Short) and Mabel (Selena Gomez) — who bond over their obsession with true crime podcasts. Over the past four seasons, the trio have found themselves repeatedly embroiled in murder investigations, documenting each case in their own podcast.

Now in season 5, the mystery continues with the suspicious death of Lester (Teddy Coluca), the Arconia’s doorman. Initially dismissed as an accident, Charles, Oliver and Mabel dive headfirst into the investigation, uncovering a sprawling conspiracy that stretches beyond the building’s walls and entangles New York’s old mob families with its newest billionaires.

“Our beloved doorman has a hold of a large amount of tenants in our buildings’ secrets, and many other things about his life were interesting for me to sort of explore,” co-creator John Hoffman told Decider in October 2024. “We really are dipping our toe into a New York City in season 5 that feels particularly ripped from the headlines in certain ways that we’ve not done before.”

The first three episodes of Only Murders in the Building season 5 premiered on Sept. 9.

During an interview with Extra TV in September 2025, Gomez said the fifth installment is a “beautiful tribute” to the Arconia’s doorman, Lester.

“We introduce his life and what he wanted to be [growing up] and how much he cared about everybody [at the Arconia],” she said. “I like that we get to meet his wife. It was really fun.”

Though initially assumed to be an accident, the suspicious circumstances quickly draw Mabel, Oliver and Charles into their own investigation — which ends up involving mobsters, sliced-off fingers and billionaires.

“A guy fills a fountain with blood in the most murderous building in New York,” Martin’s Charles-Haden Savage says in the trailer. “And they say it’s accidental?”
