NEED TO KNOW
The details for the Oh. What. Fun. soundtrack are here!
PEOPLE can exclusively reveal that the holiday film’s soundtrack will feature two new Gwen Stefani songs.
Her single “Shake the Snow Globe,” featured on the film’s official trailer and released on Wednesday, Nov. 5, will be available on the album exclusively from Amazon Music. Another new song from Stefani, 56, called “Hot Cocoa” will also be on the Oh. What Fun. soundtrack, available on Dec. 3 via Sony Music Masterworks.

“Gwen Stefani and No Doubt are such important music figures for people from my generation,” director Michael Showalter tells PEOPLE. “I love that ‘Shake the Snow Globe’ has direct references to lines and moments from the movie.”
He continues: “It’s also the most incredibly infectious and groovy tune. It truly is the most incredible honor to have her original music in the film. I am such a massive lifelong fan of hers.”
Another No Doubt classic — 2003’s “It’s My Life” — also plays a pivotal role in the film between Sammy (Dominic Sessa) and Lizzie (Havana Rose Liu). Showalter, 55, always loved Talk Talk’s original rendition of the track but thought No Doubt’s cover was “so fantastic.”
“In the movie, Sammy and Lizzie are two young people on the cusp of starting their lives, but they are also both breaking away from their families and breaking out on their own,” he says. “It’s a great dance song but also captures something so profound about finding your own path in life.”
Under the music supervision of Marcus Tamkin, the soundtrack also features a mix of alt-pop and indie-rock takes on holiday classics by artists including Fleet Foxes, St. Vincent, Jeff Tweedy, the bird and the bee and Weyes Blood.
Also featured are songs from Uwade, Empress Of’s Lorely Rodriguez, a collaboration from Andy Shauf and Madi Diaz, as well as the bird and the bee, who also make an appearance in the movie. Furthermore, the album notably includes Sharon Van Etten’s retro cover of The Pretenders’ “2000 Miles” and Sessa’s cover of “The 12 Days Of Christmas.”
“I always had this hope that the soundtrack would be something iconic that people would come back to and revisit on its own for holiday seasons to come,” says Showalter. “Something that was cozy and classic, but also contemporary. I think we’ve achieved that.”
Oh. What. Fun. follows one dysfunctional family’s chaotic Christmas, which is held together by matriarch Claire Clauster (Michelle Pfeiffer), the glue of the family and the one who plans all the festivities. But after feeling under-appreciated, she embarks on an impromptu adventure of her own.
