NEED TO KNOW
It’s July 4th when we return to Dr. Robby’s emergency room.
On Tuesday, Dec. 16, HBO dropped the first trailer for season 2 of The Pitt. After its record-breaking premiere last year, the series returns with Noah Wyle’s Dr. Robby getting ready to go on a “little sabbatical.”
As the trailer begins, Dana Evans (Katherine LaNasa) returns after she “took some time” off, and she quips, “Who else is gonna get this place through the Fourth of July?”
Newcomer Dr. Mohan (Supriya Ganesh) is getting settled into the emergency department as she’ll be Dr. Robby’s replacement, and she already has ideas for “improving the department” — though he doesn’t exactly have time to hear them amidst the usual chaos.
Dr. Frank Langdon (Patrick Ball) is back, too, but that doesn’t mean it’s going to be smooth sailing for him, as Dr. Robby assigns him to triage.
“We can cover for you — we’ve been doing it for months,” Dr. Robby tells him, referring to Dr. Frank’s stint at rehab after his prescription drug addiction was revealed.

Elsewhere in the emergency department, Dr. McKay (Fiona Dourif) is ready to get laid, which is far more information than Dr. Yolanda (Alexandra Metz) cares to hear. Dr. King (Taylor Dearden) is quite happy about Dr. Frank’s return, and Dana speculates that Dr. Robby might be “trying to outrun some old ghosts” with his upcoming sabbatical.
“There’s gonna be a lot of time to self-reflect,” Dr. Jack (Shawn Hatosy) ribs Robby. “You sure you can handle that?”
Things get really complicated when the hospital is forced to go analog when their computer systems shut down after a nearby hospital faces a similar outage.
“We’re about to go analog,” Dr. Robby announces to a nervous-looking emergency department.

The trailer concludes with Dr. Mohan (Supriya Ganesh) giving Dr. Robby some advice of her own, after he tells her, “You’re a very empathetic soul. But this is the ED — it’s not for the faint of heart.”
“What do you need to get some basic empathy back?” she asks him.
Season 2 of The Pitt also stars Isa Briones (Dr. Santos), Gerran Howell (Whitaker), Shabana Azeez (Javadi) and Sepideh Moafi (Dr. Al-Hashimi).
The 15-episode season, which will track one 15-hour shift in the emergency department on July 4th, kicks off on Jan. 8 on HBO Max. New episodes will be released weekly through April 16.
