NEED TO KNOW
Nicholas Hoult announced that he has to miss a planned appearance at the upcoming New York Comic-Con due to knee surgery, which is preventing him from being able to walk or fly.
“I’m so sorry to tell you that I won’t be able to join you this time,” Hoult, 35, said in a video posted to Comic-Con’s official Instagram. “Unfortunately, I had knee surgery a couple of weeks ago and I can’t walk or fly yet, so I’m not going to be able to make it. I was really looking forward to it, so I’m sorry.”

Hoult continued: “I hope you have a wonderful weekend and hopefully I’ll be joining you in the near future and get to see you all soon.”
Although Hoult didn’t specify what type of knee surgery he had, most surgical procedures carry a risk of developing deep vein thrombosis, or blood clots, if the person flies too soon after. According to the National Institute of Health, some surgeons advise waiting up to three months after some types of knee surgeries.
The actor — who plays the Man of Steel’s nemesis Lex Luthor in Superman — was scheduled to appear on a hotly anticipated X-Men reunion panel with co-stars James McAvoy and Elliot Page. Hoult first played Hank McCoy — aka, the mutant Beast — in 2011’s X-Men: First Class.
New York Comic-Con begins Oct. 9 and runs till Oct. 12.
