From Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce to Megan Thee Stallion and Klay Thompson, the 2020s have been a big decade for musician-athlete romances.
That’s because the past few years have seen some of the most well-known artists on the planet shack up with stars from the entirely different world of athletics, making headlines and captivating fans in the process. We all know that pop culture loves a celebrity couple in general, but there’s just something extra special about those music-sport pairings. After all, who doesn’t love watching a 6’9 tight end rock out to “Love Story” while cheering on his girlfriend from the crowd of her sold-out stadium show, or seeing one of the slickest female rappers in the game sit courtside while her boyfriend shoots hoops in an NBA arena?
But even before the age of Tay and Trav or MTS and Klay, the world was obsessed with romantic crossovers between the two industries. From Shakira to Carrie Underwood to Enrique Iglesias, musicians have long been known to shoot and score with pro athletes, whether their partners were known for playing football, tennis, soccer or hockey. Maybe it’s proof that opposites really do attract, or maybe it just speaks to the fact that sports and music are more similar than we often give them credit for being — with both involving star players performing for the entertainment of thousands of expectant fans in big venues across the world.

After separating from husband Offset, Cardi B found love again with NFL star Stefon Diggs.
