NEED TO KNOW
Miranda Lambert is a Grammy-winning musical artist, but in her spare time, she’s also another kind of artist — sort of.
The country star opened up about one of her unlikely hobbies in a recent interview, revealing on The Joe Rogan Experience podcast that she’s a huge fan of painting folk art chickens, despite not being the best painter.
“Even if you’re not great at the thing or a thing or if you try a bunch of stuff and you kind of suck at all of it but you are working on it or whatever, there’s fulfillment in that. There’s an accomplishment,” she said on the Oct. 29 podcast. “Like I paint folk chickens and I’m terrible at it. Little folk art chickens. I don’t even know why. I have no idea why. And they’re not good at all.”
Folk art can look a number of different ways, but the Museum of International Folk Art describes it as art that’s “handmade, traditional, and of, by, and for the people.” It can be learned formally or informally, and often includes bright colors and abstract, whimsical designs.
Lambert, 41, explained that she paints the animals on small canvases, and though she doesn’t know much about traditional folk art, feels drawn to the hobby because it’s “cute and fun.”
“I’m not going to show anybody. I painted one for my mom [Beverly] ‘cause she has to hang it up. She put it in her kitchen,” the star said. “I’m terrible at it and I don’t know anything about it, but I would like to learn. I look up YouTube classes or whatever. They’re so cute.”

The “Mama’s Broken Heart” singer said her husband Brendan McLoughlin was “probably dying out there” that she’d brought up the hobby on Rogan’s podcast.
“He’s like, ‘Are you talking about your stupid folk art chickens?’ ‘Cause I’ll just be in there, he’s cooking and I’m just like, ‘I’m painting my chickens right now,’” she said.
Lambert and McLoughlin, 34, tied the knot in January 2019. Earlier this month, the singer celebrated the former NYPD cop’s birthday with a sweet Instagram post.
“Happy birthday to my city gone country and honorary Texan husband @brendanjmcloughlin. Lover of the sun, his family , friends , the kitchen, pasta, hot dogs, travel, animals and all things fun. You are the best. 34 looks good on you ! I love you. 🩵☀️,” she captioned the post.
