The Goldbergs showed different relationships during its nearly 10-year run, and away from the cameras, several cast members have found “the one” with fewer comedic complications.
The family sitcom aired 229 episodes over 10 seasons from 2013 to 2023, and it was largely based on the showrunner’s real childhood that he videotaped during his youth. The Goldbergs centered around a suburban family in the 1980s through the eyes of Adam (played by Sean Giambrone and narrated by Patton Oswald).
Apart from the shenanigans Adam caught on camera, several other dynamics were at play, both within their family and outside. The show’s roster of actors — which included Wendi McLendon-Covey, Hayley Orrantia and Troy Gentile — brought the characters to life during different chapters of their storylines.
Throughout the series, numerous characters fell in love, broke up and reconciled. But what do the actors’ real-life relationships look like off-screen?
From long-lasting marriages to a date night that inspired a horror movie, here’s everything to know about the real-life loves of The Goldbergs cast.

McLendon-Covey played wife and mom, Beverly, in The Goldbergs. Away from the spotlight, the actress is also a wife, who has been married to her husband Greg Covey for nearly 30 years.
In a November 2024 interview on Late Night Seth Meyers, McLendon-Covey revealed how she met her husband decades ago in college. “The minute he walked in … I literally thought the word ‘yes,’ like, you’re mine,” she said. “But I didn’t know how that would take shape.”
The year prior, in August 2023, McLendon-Covey used her trademark humor to poke fun at their “30th anniversary together” on Instagram. (While the couple had only been married 27 years at the time, they met three years earlier. The two wed in 1996.)
“Send thoughts and prayers to @jivemiguel70, because I sure haven’t made it easy, but he’s a trooper!” she wrote. “Love you, Greg. I hope you have another 30 years of patience for me!”
Over the years, McLendon-Covey has revealed that throughout their marriage, she and Greg have had regular date nights and enjoyed attending concerts together. She also shared that they don’t celebrate Valentine’s Day, citing it as “the key to a lasting marriage.”

Orrantia portrayed the Goldbergs’ oldest child, daughter Erica, who weds her person by the end of the series. Orrantia is also married in real life to actor and filmmaker Greg Furman.
The couple married on Oct. 14, 2023, after Orrantia was set up on a date by a Goldbergs co-worker six years prior. Months after meeting, Orrantia told PEOPLE that she saw him again on social media and reached out.
“I saw his videos come up on my [Instagram] page, and I just thought, ‘This guy’s so funny, I just want to hang out with him,’ so I actually slid in the DMs,” she recalled. “I asked if we could go get coffee. So pretty much from there that was about it — we’ve been together ever since.”
Leading up to their special day, Orrantia and Furman shared memorable moments in their relationship, including after the actress competed on The Masked Singer and earned second place.
“I’ve actually never won a trophy, so I kept thinking, man how cool would it be if Masked Singer would be my first trophy,” she told Entertainment Tonight in May 2022. “So when I didn’t get it, [Furman] was so sweet and he had this little trophy made with a little microphone that said like, ‘Breakout Star of 2022.’ ”
Troy Gentile

Gentile played the hyper-competitive middle child, Barry. In the show, Barry dates numerous women, and in one episode, he’s even forced to confront three of his exes at once.
In real life, however, Gentile doesn’t currently seem romantically involved with anyone.
That said, he was previously close to his late dog Ruby, describing her as “the best.” Gentile regularly posted photos of the pup, praising her at every chance.
Ruby died at the age of 16 in February 2024. Gentile eulogized his furry companion on Instagram, writing, “You were always there for me and always brightened my day. Blessed to have had you since 8th grade. Thank you for making my life so much happier.”

Giambrone portrayed Adam, the youngest of the Goldberg siblings, an aspiring filmmaker who tries to capture his family’s misadventures.
While the actor appears to be single, he is close to his family, resembling his longtime fictional character in more ways than one.
“I have a very similar love of pop culture like Adam, and … I made home movies with my brother,” he told Glitter in April 2021.
Giambrone continued, “Like Adam, I can easily be annoying to my family and told to shut up and knock it off. Most importantly, we both have a similar love for our families.”

Segal played Beverly’s father, Albert Solomon, a World War II veteran who tried to advise his grandkids on different matters.
Segal died from surgery complications at 87 on March 23, 2021, during the show’s eighth season.
At the time of his death, Segal was married to his wife, Sonia Schultz Greenbaum. According to The Press Democrat, they were high school sweethearts while growing up in Pennsylvania. After life took them in separate directions, they reconnected in their 60s and married in September 1998.
Following Segal’s unexpected passing, The Goldbergs cast and crew released a joint statement saying, “He was kind, sweet, beyond talented and funny. George was the true epitome of class and he touched all of our lives so deeply.”
AJ Michalka and Josh Pence

Michalka portrayed Lainey Lewis, Erica’s best friend, who eventually ends up dating Barry before leaving town to pursue her dreams. In real life, Michalka is part of the pop duo Aly and AJ and in a relationship with fellow actor Josh Pence.
Since Michalka and Pence started dating on Aug. 2, 2017, the couple have maintained their privacy. The singer and actor are sometimes seen on the red carpet together, and Michalka will occasionally post photos of Pence on her Instagram.
Still, Michalka and Pence haven’t publicly spoken about each other in interviews, and the latter doesn’t have a social media presence.
Most recently, in April 2025, Michalka thanked Pence for making her birthday celebrations memorable.
“I had the most special Birthday week. Thank you for all the endless love. And thank you to my sweetheart for the NY trip,” she penned. “I feel incredibly blessed.”

In The Goldbergs, Lerner played Geoff Schwartz, one of Barry’s good friends with a longtime crush on Erica. Off-camera, Lerner is in a long-term relationship with actress and influencer Olivia Sui.
According to a feature in Domino, the couple met in 2018 after one of Lerner’s co-workers on The Goldbergs set the two up on a date. “We were immediately obsessed with each other,” he told the publication.
Within a few years, they were collaborating professionally. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter in April 2025, Lerner recalled how Sui inspired his project, the Blumhouse thriller Drop.
One night at dinner with Lerner and his friend Cameron Fuller, someone started AirDropping Shrek memes to Sui’s phone. The trio spent the entire evening trying to figure out who was sending the memes, and it spawned the movie’s plot.
