Mckenna Grace got a kick out of seeing Dave Franco transform into a teenager on the set of Regretting You.
The actress, 19, told CinemaBlend she at first did not recognize costar Franco, 40, when he walked by on set wearing a wig that was meant to make him look younger for flashback scenes.
“I was standing there kind of just, like, out of it, and all of a sudden I see somebody run by in a little white tank top and blond hair,” Grace said. “I was like, ‘Whose teenage son is on set?’ And they run past me, and I’m like, ‘That’s Dave Franco!’ ”
“I’m like, ‘Oh my God.’ It was a jump scare,” she added. “It was like the first version of the wig that he’s still so embarrassed of that you can’t find a photo of it anywhere. He, like, buried this wig — it was ridiculous. But that was so funny. I laugh every time I watch it. I’m like, ‘Oh my God, it’s them.’ “

Regretting You, based on author Colleen Hoover’s 2019 novel, stars Grace as Clara, whose relationship with her mother Morgan (Allison Williams) grows strained after a car accident kills both Clara’s father (Scott Eastwood) and Morgan’s sister Jenny (Willa Fitzgerald).
In the aftermath, Morgan grows closer with Franco’s character Jonah (Jenny’s widower) as the family grapples with loss, secrets and Clara’s own budding relationship with classmate Miller (Mason Thames).
The movie’s production saw Williams, 37, Franco, Grace and Thames, 18, all grow close on set. Williams told PEOPLE at a special screening of Regretting You on Wednesday, Oct. 23, her onscreen daughter Grace is “one of the easiest people to get along with.”

“She’s so smart and talented and sweet and kind, and she’ just the consummate professional, but she’s also just enthusiastic and genuine and interested. She was just a dream collaborator,” she added. “We had so much fun together. It was very natural, honestly.”
Williams also told PEOPLE that despite the movie’s emotional plot and themes, she feels it will prove a satisfying watch for audiences.
“I know there’s a lot of talk about [how] you’re gonna ugly-cry, but I also want you to know that you’re gonna leave feeling like you’re floating,” she said. “It’s a movie that feels good to watch.”
Regretting You is in theaters Oct. 24.
