Matthew McConaughey is reflecting on the romances that preceded his and Camila Alves McConaughey’s 13-year marriage.
In the Nov. 21 issue of his Lyrics of Livin’ newsletter, the 56-year-old Oscar winner shared a glimpse into the mindset he embraced during his search for the perfect “life partner” before he met Camila.
“I had met, spent time with, and seriously dated some wonderful women in my life, many of whom I am still friends with today, but ultimately they were all stops, no stays,” Matthew wrote in the newsletter. “In my mid-thirties, I was looking for a lifetime lover, a best friend, and a mother-to-be. I was looking for more, I was looking for the one, I was looking for her.”

While Matthew had famously dated fellow celebrities — such as Sandra Bullock, Ashley Judd and Penelope Cruz — each relationship ended for one reason or another.
After having a vivid dream in which he was an “88-year-old bachelor” with no wife but many children, Matthew said that he was suddenly reminded that “all I ever knew I wanted to be in life was a father” and that “if I never met the one for me and got married, that was okay too.”
In hindsight, the Interstellar star insisted in the newsletter — which he also narrated in a YouTube video — that it was only when he “quit looking” for the woman of his dreams that she suddenly wandered into his life.
“Then she came. Three months later, I met Camila,” Matthew continued. “Twenty years later she’s still the only woman I’ve ever wanted to take on a date, sleep with, or wake up next to.”
The couple, who tied the knot in 2012, now share three children: Levi, 17, Vida, 15, and Livingston, 12.

While he’s previously made it clear that he and Camila share a love that they “never question,” Matthew also revealed that they do have one secret tip for maintaining a healthy marriage — and it involves downsizing the size of your bed.

“I wake up one morning … I’m looking over there, and Camila’s like a football field away, man,” he quipped to Fox News Digital in September. “Then you go to bed at night, like, you want to snuggle up and … ‘Well, we’ve got to cover you up. Come about 12 feet, and I’ll come 12 feet.’ ”
“You’re like, man, this damn king-size bed is not good for the marriage, man. Get rid of that son of a b—-,” the Dallas Buyers Club star continued. “So we got a queen-size, where we’re shoulder to shoulder. I’m telling you, it’s good for your marriage.”
