NEED TO KNOW
Mason Thames’ Spidey senses are tingling!
At the Oct. 20 premiere of his latest film, Regretting You, the actor exclusively told PEOPLE in Los Angeles about the very fitting gift that his costar and friend Mckenna Grace got him for his 18th birthday.
Thames, an avid fan of the Spider-Man movies, reveals, “Oh my God, she got me a Spider-Man wallet and this backpack and this card that I’m not going to get into detail because it’s too special to me. It was great.”

The How to Train Your Dragon star, who aspires to someday play Spider-Man on the big screen, has often said in interviews that his favorite movie is Spider-Man 2 starring Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst and Alfred Molina.
“Spider-Man 2,” he told Collider in June of his favorite movie ever. “Of course, I could say artistically made films, which I completely love … but you can just watch [Spider-Man movies] and have a great time.”
Thames admitted, “Spider-Man 2, I’ve watched that over 50 times.”
And that’s why the gift from Grace, 19, felt so meaningful to him.
Thames previous told PEOPLE in August that he spent his 18th birthday in July with Grace, alongside his family and best friends.
“I’m 18! I was home back in Texas and I got like a little birthday week and Mckenna was also there, and that was really nice,” he said at the time.

At the recent L.A. premiere of Regretting You, Thames sang Grace’s praises before he had revealed the Spider-Man wallet gift.
“First of all, she’s a fantastic actress and one of the best I’ve ever gotten the pleasure to work with,” Thames says. “And more importantly, me and McKenna met [in an Uber] like a year in advance before filming, and I’ve never clicked that faster than anybody in my life. She’s my favorite person.”

Elaborating on working with Grace as love interests in Regretting You, he adds, “She just has this joy to her and this happiness — and it’s infectious. Even on the worst day, I go on set and I see her and everybody lights up.”
Regretting You is in theaters Oct. 24.
