Martin Scorsese has gone from Oscar-winning director to Emmy-nominated actor!
Thanks to his star turn in The Studio, the beloved 82-year-old filmmaker received his first-ever Emmy nomination for acting during the 2025 Emmy Awards nomination ceremony on Tuesday, July 15.
Martin was nominated in the Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series category alongside Jon Bernthal for The Bear and four other The Studio guest stars: Bryan Cranston, Dave Franco, Ron Howard and Anthony Mackie.

Martin’s youngest daughter, Francesca, shared her dad’s reaction to finding out about his latest Emmy nomination in a series of Instagram Stories posts.
In one post, Francesca, 25, shared a photo of the nominees in Martin’s category, putting confetti over her father’s photo.
“Our little actor 🫶,” she wrote.
In a separate post, Francesca — who often features her dad in social media posts — shared a screenshot of her father having an emotional reaction to the news over a FaceTime call.
The photo shows Martin holding his hands over his face sitting in what appears to be his home office while Francesca smiles.

Martin played himself in the first episode of The Studio.
The series, co-created and co-directed by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, took a satirical approach to the Hollywood studio system and featured numerous A-list guest stars.
Rogen, who plays the head of the fictional movie studio Continental Studios, exclusively told PEOPLE he and Goldberg approached the star-studded cameos with specific celebrities in mind.
“It was all about the stories of the episodes and kind of who served the various storylines and it was pretty specific for the most part,” he explained. “We would write it to our idealized version of who we could get maybe, and we very often got those people, which was shocking.”
“People in general are pretty cool to make fun of themselves and Hollywood and seem to get the joke, which was nice,” Rogen added.

He won his first Emmy in 2011 for Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series for directing the pilot episode of Boardwalk Empire. As an executive producer, he was also nominated for Outstanding Drama series that year and the following year.
In 2012, he won two Emmys for directing and producing the documentary film George Harrison: Living in the Material World about the Beatles musician.
