NEED TO KNOW
Mark Hamill’s wife is his biggest fan.
Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter ahead of the release of his newest movie The Long Walk, the actor said that his wife of 47 years, Marilou Hamill, has a favorite film of her husband’s that has nothing to do with his most famous role as Luke Skywalker in Star Wars.
“With The Life of Chuck, I’ve seen it now three times. My wife has seen it like six times. She says, ‘It’s my favorite thing you’ve ever done,’ ” said Hamill, 73.
Released earlier this year, The Life of Chuck is one of two Stephen King movie adaptations that Hamill has out in 2025, including the forthcoming The Long Walk.

And his role in the latter is a villainous one — similar to his turn in 2023’s The Fall of the House of Usher, which Life of Chuck director Mike Flanagan also helmed.
“I was playing the family lawyer to a really evil family — a soulless, truly evil guy,” Hamill told THR. “And I loved it. It was minimalist. It was unlike anything I had ever done, and it sort of rekindled my satisfaction of doing things on camera.”
As for his grandfather role in Life of Chuck, Hamill told PEOPLE in June that he was drawn to King’s story about the titular, mysterious Chuck Krantz (played as an adult by Tom Hiddleston), though he realized it was “not going to be easy to adapt” from page to screen.
Hamill also said he didn’t realize how impactful the movie would be until seeing it with a full audience during its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2024.
“That was a revelation; you could just feel the energy. They were with us the entire way,” he told PEOPLE. “When the lights came up, there were grown-ups with tears in their eyes. I mean, you could just feel that it had hit the target, and people were deeply moved.”

Last month, the Hamills spoke to PEOPLE about keeping their marriage strong almost five decades and three kids later, with Marilou saying that from her experience, “Don’t sweat the little stuff.”
“And also, go in knowing you’re not going to change anyone. So you have to accept their quirks and their behavior,” she added before her husband humorously interrupted, “What quirks?”
But Hamill agreed, saying it’s both about “acceptance” as well as “communication.”
“I just think that when you find the right one, the odds are against you,” he added. “But if you do get lucky, you just have to hang on and be grateful that you were able to find that one.”
The Life of Chuck is now available to rent or buy on demand, while The Long Walk is in theaters Friday, Sept. 12.
