NEED TO KNOW
Mark Consuelos is shaking things up in 9-1-1 season 9.
In the trailer for the upcoming season of the ABC hit series, Consuelos plays billionaire Tripp Houser, who finds himself swallowed by a whale while kayaking right as the trailer begins. Eddie (Ryan Guzman) immediately jumps into the ocean to rescue Tripp and pulls him to shore, where Hen (Aisha Hinds) performs CPR and saves his life.
Hen’s face is immortalized in Tripp’s memory after he regains consciousness, and he wants to give her something in return. “I wanna reward you for it,” he tells her during a visit to the station.
“You do not have to reward me,” Hen replies. “I was just doing my job.”
But Tripp won’t take no for an answer, and he’s determined to send Hen into space. She wants Karen (Tracie Thoms) to come with her, but she refuses as she claims Tripp “doesn’t care about serious science.”

Instead, Athena (Angela Bassett) accompanies Hen on the once-in-a-lifetime trip — “I can’t believe I let you talk me into this,” she quips — but things take a turn as a geomagnetic storm hits the atmosphere.
Tripp ignores advice to “scrub the launch,” and sends Athena and Hen, along with three other “everyday heroes,” into space, and they soon lose contact with the spaceship.
As the geomagnetic storm hits, meteors are crashing into the Earth and Station 118 is preparing for the worst, all while trying to somehow rescue their own from space.

During the premiere of Live with Kelly and Mark in September, Consuelos, 54, opened up about his experience on set of the show, as he said, “Acting is my passion. I got to do a few episodes on this show called 9-1-1.”
“We can’t talk about any of the details,” he said, before revealing a few tidbits about his character. “I play a tech billionaire. His name is Tripp, and he experiences an emergency situation, so he needs to call 9-1-1.”

Kelly Ripa, meanwhile, quipped that she was pressuring her husband to become friends with Bassett, 67, on set.
“That was my whole thing. I was like, ‘You get in there and be friends with Angela Bassett so we can all have dinner,'” she said.
“It was a great time,” Consuelos said. “Really, really great time.”

Season 9 will be the show’s first without Peter Krause, whose character died in a shocking twist in season 8. Jennifer Love Hewitt said that filming the first season without Krause, 60, was “sad” for the whole cast.
“It’s not the same,” she told Entertainment Tonight in July. “Nothing is the same.”
“He was the person that mattered to everyone in the cast the most,” she said. “He was our hero. And he always will be.”
