Despite it being one of her most popular films, Mandy Moore says her husband, Taylor Goldsmith, has never seen the 2002 movie A Walk to Remember.
In the July 17 episode of Kylie Kelce’s Not Gonna Lie podcast, the 41-year-old actress said that while “young people are still discovering” the film to this day, her husband still hasn’t.
“It’s really, it’s very, very sweet how people still feel connected to this story and those characters,” she said. “My husband has still never seen the movie.”
She continued: “I think he lied the other day and somebody was like, ‘A Walk to Remember is so sad.’ He’s like, ‘Yeah, so sad.’ I’m like, ‘You’ve never seen it. ‘ But yeah, so that’s funny. Maybe one day we’ll have like [a] group viewing with our kids when they get older.”

At the time the film was being made, Moore was known more for her successful singing career — but when the opportunity to audition for the role of Jamie Sullivan came, she jumped at it.
“I was a big Nicholas Sparks fan,” she told Kelce. “I had read a few of his books, and when the opportunity came along to audition for this, I was just so hopeful that things would go my way … to eventually get the part and be a part of telling this story was just like a real boon. It’s something that I feel very proud of. And it’s really, it’s just incredible that it’s a project that young people are still discovering.”
Earlier this year, a rep for producer Denise Di Novi confirmed to PEOPLE that a remake of the 2002 film, based on Nicholas Sparks’ 1999 young-adult romance novel of the same name, is in development at Monarch Media.
Per Deadline, Di Novi will work alongside Hunt Lowry, with whom she also produced the original movie that starred Moore and Shane West in the lead roles. Adam Shankman directed the 2002 film, but no filmmaker has been announced for the new project as of yet.
Moore previously told PEOPLE that she would “love” to see a reboot of the film, even offering ideas of who might play the role of her character Jamie Sullivan.
“I don’t know, Olivia Rodrigo or something like that,” the This Is Us alum said amid the original movie’s 20th anniversary in January 2022. “Someone could redo this film.”
“I would love to see it. It’s been long enough that, yeah, I feel like we’ve earned our place in cinematic history for a reboot at this point,” Moore added.
