NEED TO KNOW
Mama June Shannon is worried that her daughter Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson will become collateral damage in her boyfriend Dralin Carswell’s legal woes.
Her concerns were sparked on the June 6 episode of Mama June: Family Crisis after the couple learned during an “emergency meeting” with Dralin’s attorney that he could be facing up to 10 years prison if his case goes to trial following his March 2023 DUI arrest.
At the time, Dralin was arrested for DUI, fleeing police and outstanding warrants after a three-mile car chase in Monroe County, Georgia. Alana was a passenger in the car but was not charged.
After the meeting, Alana realized that the couple’s dreams for the future could be in jeopardy if Dralin went to prison for a decade. She explained, “10 years is insane to me, like we had things that we wanted to do in 10 years from now, we wanted to be able to honestly buy a house, I would already be a nurse, talking about kids and weddings and stuff from 10 years from now.”
“And it’s like, now we kind of have to reroute and just think about what would our life be 10 years from now if he got sentenced to 10 years?” she continued.

During a car ride with Dralin, Alana admitted that she is “nervous” about a potential trial.
“It’s breaking my heart,” she told her boyfriend. “They don’t need to give you 10 years. If they give you 10 years, I’m gonna have to tell them that I’m gonna have to serve with you.”
Alana then updated her sister Lauryn “Pumpkin” Efird about Dralin’s legal troubles. Pumpkin asked, “What are you gonna do? Sit here and harp and wait on him for 10 years? Girl, you have a life to live.”
She was shocked by her sister’s reaction, saying in a confessional, “This is a little weird. Where’s the Pumpkin that I was like, ‘Oh, you and [Dralin] will be fine. Me and Josh got together at a young age. Y’all will be fine.’ Doesn’t seem like Pumpkin. There’s something going on, and I will get to the bottom of it.”
Alana then turned the tables on her sister. “Wouldn’t you wait 10 years on Josh?” she asked of her sister’s husband Josh Efird, to which Pumpkin replied, “Probably not.”

Later in the episode, Mama June asked Alana about how the meeting went and what it meant for her daughter’s future — including if she planned to stay in Colorado if he went to prison.
“Honestly, if Dralin goes to jail and Alana ends up giving up her nursing career, it would be the most stupidest thing ever,” she told cameras, before reflecting on her own romantic history.
“I used to put men first and what they wanted and all that, and gave [up] a lot of my life, but I hope that she does not do that,” she added.
