NEED TO KNOW
Kevin Federline is bringing his story to the page.
PEOPLE can exclusively reveal the cover of the former dancer’s forthcoming memoir You Thought You Knew, out this fall from audio imprint Listenin. Federline previously announced the book on Aug. 6.
Throughout his career, Federline, 47, has danced alongside stars like Michael Jackson, Pink and Destiny’s Child. But, as the book synopsis explains, his life became even more public when he married Britney Spears in 2004. The couple, who share sons Sean Preston, 19, and Jayden James, 18, divorced in 2007.

The book, which also traces Federline’s working class childhood and early years, “explores how he weathered the scrutiny of relentless media coverage, high-profile relationships and the painful reality of raising children under a microscope, all while trying to hold his family together,” per a statement shared with PEOPLE.
The release also notes that You Thought You Knew is the first time that Federline has spoken publicly about these topics.
“This book is extremely intimate and transparent,” Federline said in the statement shared with PEOPLE. “I achieved my biggest dreams, dealt with crushing heartbreak and endured constant ridicule, all while becoming the father my children needed as they experienced non stop emotional turbulence. If you’ve ever had questions, you’ll find answers here.”

You Thought You Knew marks the first release from Listenin, a new audio-first imprint that’s part of Barracuda Baby Productions. Federline will narrate the audiobook, and the memoir will additionally be available in hardcover and ebook formats.
“We’re proud to have Kevin as the first of our three books launching with Listenin,” says Jaren Hayman, Barracuda Baby Productions founder. “He spent two years in every tabloid and two decades navigating a volatile, ever-changing reality — choosing silence to protect his kids. That silence left scars.”
“Listenin was built for real voices telling real stories, and sharing Kevin’s after everything said about him means a lot to us,” Hayman continues. “I am excited for the world to get to meet the real Kevin Federline.”
