Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom “want to protect” their daughter amid their recent split.
A source tells PEOPLE that the “Dark Horse” singer, 40, and The Lord of the Rings alum, 48, are making sure to prioritize their daughter Daisy, 4, as the two go their separate ways. A second source says the former couple “had to admit” that they would be better parents if they weren’t a couple.
“At a certain point, they had to admit it’s better for Daisy to see their parents separately, then she won’t grow up feeling the tension and animosity,” the insider tells PEOPLE.

A source goes on to say that both Perry and Bloom want to “protect” their daughter against “anything adverse.”
“They are there for Daisy and have been,” the insider tells PEOPLE. “Daisy is their angel, and they want to protect her from anything adverse.”
The insider adds, “They want to keep a friendly relationship so each can be around her separately or together.”
Bloom and Perry welcomed their first child together — Bloom’s second after son Flynn Bloom, whom he shares with his ex-wife, Miranda Kerr — on Aug. 26, 2020. PEOPLE confirmed Perry and Bloom’s split after nine years together and six years engaged on June 26.
“She’s happy and just focused on her tour. Her daughter is with her and they’re sightseeing and having fun,” a source told PEOPLE of the “Dark Horse” singer and Daisy.

“She never saw herself being a single mom,” the insider told PEOPLE. “She’s felt a lot of pressure about her tour and now this. It’s been a lot for her. She’s still doing great though.”
