Katy Perry didn’t rip off the bandaid when it came to releasing her new song.
After the 41-year-old released her new single “Bandaids,” which seemingly alludes to the end of her engagement with ex Orlando Bloom, she revealed the internal struggle that came with putting it out into the world.
“I struggled for months with the idea of putting this song out,” Katy admitted in a Nov. 9 Instagram post, “Even after all these years it can be scary to be vulnerable…but hopefully the lyrics of this song resonate with someone going through what I have been through and maybe they won’t feel so alone and will find the strength to keep going like I have.”
In her newest song, Katy—who shares 5-year-old daughter Daisy Dove with Orlando—details the end of a relationship that she tried so hard to salvage.
“Hand to God I promise I tried,” Katy sings in the track, which was released Nov. 6. “There’s no stone left unturned / It’s not what you did, it’s what you didn’t / You were there but you weren’t.”
