NEED TO KNOW
Katie Ginella is seemingly taking a step back from the cast of The Real Housewives of Orange County.
In the Sept. 11 episode of the Bravo franchise, Katie was nowhere to be seen after Emily Simpson arranged a lie detector test in two earlier episodes — Aug. 28 and Sept. 4 — that yielded shocking results.
Although Katie claimed that Gretchen Rossi said she was “roofied” by Tamra Judge more than 16 years ago during a now-famous episode of the show, the exam showed that was not true.
When Gina Kirschenheiter asked the administrator how accurate it is, he replied: “It’s medical equipment so it’s 100% reading what your blood, sweat and breathing are doing.”
“I’m full of nerves,” Katie admitted in the Aug. 28 episode. “Polygraphs, they’re not fun. This is all anxiety for me.”

Earlier this season, Katie alleged that Gretchen accused Tamra of drugging her during a party in season 4, in which Tamra joked that she wanted to get Gretchen “naked wasted.” The episode was then titled “Naked Wasted.”
Katie claimed she heard about the allegations from Gretchen at a dinner that occurred without cameras. Jennifer Pedranti and all of the ladies’ respective partners were in attendance, but Katie’s husband, Matt, was the only one who backed up her story.
The administrators said Gretchen was “truthful” when she answered “no” to being drugged. She has denied Katie’s account along with Tamra, who was found entirely truthful in all her answers to the lie detector.
This confused Tamra and Shannon Beador — who had a previous conversation with Gretchen on the show in which she said she went to the hospital the next morning because she felt “so sick.”
“I’m really suspicious about Gretchen,” Tamra said, before looking something up online. She then read out loud: “Some liars, especially practiced, can pass. Well, there you go. She’s a known liar.”
When it was time for Katie’s results, they revealed that she hadn’t given any honest answers. The first question was about the radio show host and blogger Kiki Monique, who confirmed that Katie had shared the rumor with her during a lunch with Gretchen and Gina Kirschenheiter earlier in the episode.
When Katie said she didn’t, the examiner stated, “you failed.”
The next was about a past incident where the women claimed Katie had a recording of Shannon having “a meltdown” and showed it to Alexis Bellino, the now-fiancée of Shannon’s ex, John Janssen. Katie’s denial was once again found to be deceptive.
Finally, she was asked if Gretchen told her she was drugged and went to the hospital, to which Katie answered, “yes,” and failed.
“You did the worst out of everybody,” the examiner said. “Those questions for you about Gretchen, you failed those very badly.”

The other ladies grew upset at Katie, with Heather calling her “the boy who cried wolf” and Emily declaring, “Katie, you clearly lie!”
“I didn’t lie,” Katie insisted. “Gretchen, we sat at that dinner and everyone heard it. I’m not the only one telling this.”
Before they began, the administrator warned the ladies not to move. “When you move, it looks like a reaction and a reaction looks like a lie.”
Katie then claimed that Gretchen’s partner, Slade Smiley, called her husband Matt and asked them to tell a different story about the night.
“No, he did not. You are literally making this up,” Gretchen snapped back, later clarifying that Slade only wanted to ask Matt why Katie was talking about Gretchen.

Gretchen went on to reveal that she met with Kiki, who also said Katie was lying.
“Katie, nobody believes you, not even the lie detector test,” Emily shouted. “You failed every question.”
In her confessional, Katie maintained her innocence: “This has got to be wrong. I’ll take it again, because I know 1,000% I told the truth, wholeheartedly.”
Emily proceeded to ask Katie to leave, saying, “You’ve lost your credibility with everybody here.” When Katie went outside, she told a producer that she was telling the truth and found it “extremely hurtful” that Jenn didn’t back her up.
“Matt and Slade and Ryan have all had phone calls about this, and we’re not supposed to share it,” she claimed. “So I’m all through my head, like, do I lie for Gretchen? Do I not lie for Gretchen? I’m done.”
“No one is going to believe me, but I can leave my head at night knowing I told the truth,” she concluded during a conversation with a producer. “This might be the last time anyone sees me with this group of women.”

After the episodes aired, in which Katie claimed the polygraph examiners had profiles online showing they were “actors,” she reflected on the conflict with her castmates in an interview with E! News. She shared that she would be willing to return for another season so people can “actually get to know me.”
“For me to have that moment where I get to have real conversations with these women and possibly build real friendships and not these weird surface ones,” she noted.
“I think maybe there’s a possibility of a fresh start after the reunion,” she added, indicating that she does plan to attend the end-of-season reunion. “That’s what everybody hopes, right? This show is about conflict resolution and I think I’m owed some apologies. I’ve given enough out.”
She said that she is “part-confident and part-extremely nervous” to be face-to-face with the women again, and hoping “that they can recognize that they’ve done things wrong.”
As for why she skipped the cast trip to Amsterdam, Katie clarified that she was “asked to go.”
“I was like, ‘Just tell me where they are staying and I’ll show up,’ because I wanted to hash some things out with the ladies regarding this lie detector duo that we had and I found some information online,” she recalled. “But I didn’t go and maybe it was best.”
