Jurassic World Rebirth’s Confirmed Dinosaur Theory Is The Big Problem With Its New Hybrid

Unfortunately, the main hybrid dinosaur in Jurassic World Rebirth is quite underwhelming. Audiences and critics were excited to see the D-rex in the new movie based on the glimpses in the trailers, but its disappointing role hasn’t helped reviews for Jurassic World Rebirth. While the film was meant to start a new era for the long-running franchise, it has been a critical disappointment.

This isn’t to say there’s nothing to enjoy in the film. After all, aside from the D-rex, there are plenty of other dinosaurs in Jurassic World Rebirth, such as the T-rex, the mosasaurus, spinosaurus’, and quetzalcoatlus’. These are all fan-favorite dinosaurs from the franchise, and allowed for the new movie to have some thrilling sequences.

However, instead of any of these other dinosaurs, the D-rex dominated the ending of Jurassic World Rebirth. Because of this, many fans and critics have concluded that hybrid dinosaurs in the Jurassic World series are unnecessary. There have been several hybrids introduced in the series, but the D-rex, in particular, is extra distracting in Jurassic World Rebirth because of its inspirations.

Jurassic World Rebirth’s Rancor Dinosaur Is A Distraction

The D-Rex Doesn’t Really Look Like A Dinosaur

Ever since the first glimpse of the D-rex, fans have pointed out that it looks like a Rancor from Star Wars and a Xenomorph from the Alien franchise. In an interview with Screen Rant after the release of the film, director Gareth Edwards confirmed that these two monsters did indeed serve as inspirations for the D-rex in Jurassic World Rebirth.

While people love the designs of the Rancor and Xenomorph, it’s not a good thing that the D-rex was heavily inspired by them. The franchise’s previous hybrids, such as the Indominus rex and the Indoraptor, still looked like dinosaurs, but this is unfortunately not really the case with the D-rex. During the climax of Jurassic World Rebirth, it feels like the characters are literally being hunted by a Rancor.

The design of the D-rex is a bit more effective when it’s still in containment at the beginning of the movie. However, when it returns in the wild at the end and more of it is shown, Jurassic World Rebirth honestly starts to feel like a more traditional monster movie, rather than a dinosaur film. Therefore, while it’s okay to take inspiration from other monsters, the D-rex was clearly too heavily inspired by Star Wars’ Rancor.

Jurassic Movies Don’t Need Hybrid Dinosaurs

The Franchise Should Focus On Actual Dinosaurs Again

Jurassic World Rebirth’s D-rex proves that the series has taken the idea of hybrid dinosaurs too far. Ever since the first Jurassic World movie, the franchise has tried to introduce hybrids to make things bigger, scarier, and cooler. However, it is now clearer than ever that regular dinosaurs are scary and cool enough.

In future Jurassic World movies, fans and critics would rather see dinosaurs that actually existed, rather than genetically-altered creatures. Real dinosaurs already have everything you need to make a terrifying movie, which means it’s completely unnecessary to include hybrids. Therefore, after Jurassic World Rebirth, I wouldn’t be mad if we have seen the last of hybrid dinosaurs.
