NEED TO KNOW
Junkyard frontman David Roach has died. He was 59.
Roach announced in June that he had been diagnosed with an “aggressive” skin cancer in January. On Sunday, Aug. 3, the band confirmed the lead singer’s death in an Instagram post.
“First off, we want to thank you all for the overwhelming support and love you’ve shown us during this incredibly challenging time,” the band wrote. “After a courageous battle with cancer, David passed away peacefully last night at home, in the loving arms of his wife.”
Roach received treatment for “aggressive squamous cell carcinoma affecting his head, neck, and throat,” according to a GoFundMe page. His death comes after he tied the knot with his wife, Jennifer, just two weeks ago.

It was revealed in a post shared on July 20 that the couple said “I do” in a ceremony attended by his fellow band members.
“Congratulations to the happy couple — Mr. and Mrs. David Patrick Roach ♠️❤️,” Junkyard wrote in the caption. The band shared photos from the ceremony, including one of them gathered around Roach as he sat in a wheelchair. In another, the late singer exchanged rings with his new wife at the altar.
Junkyard described their lead member in their tribute as “a gifted artist, performer, songwriter, and singer — but above all, a devoted father, husband, and brother.” They added, “Our thoughts are with the entire Roach family and everyone who loved him.”

Roach joined the metal band in 1987, and they released their self-titled album the following year after signing with Geffen Records. In 1992, Junkyard was dropped, and the band split soon after, before reuniting in 2000.
On June 27, Junkyard addressed Roach’s cancer diagnosis to fans in an Instagram post.
“First off, we want to thank you all for the overwhelming support and love you’ve shown us during this incredibly challenging time,” the band wrote. “We wish we could respond to each of you, but honestly, there are no words right now. We’re still struggling to process the news we received on Tuesday.”

According to the post, Roach had an “ongoing fever and cough” which led to him being admitted to the ER, where he received “results that have completely shattered our world.”
“It’s devastating and life-altering, and we’re trying to navigate through the emotions and uncertainty that come with it,” said Junkyard.
Roach’s bandmate Chris Gates reflected on their bond on Instagram, writing, “I loved him like a little brother. We had our ups and downs, but that never changed. My condolences to his brother and sisters … I’ll miss playing music with him, but he’ll always be an important part of me.”
