NEED TO KNOW
Julianne Moore enjoys a good day off — even if it still includes mixing business with pleasure.
In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, the actress, 64, opens up about what her ideal day looks like when she’s not shooting an award-winning film or television series, writing a book or being a fashion icon.
“I like a little of everything,” Moore — who has partnered with Lilly to launch its new Brain Health Matters campaign — says. “A perfect day is not having to get up too early and drink my coffee, and read the news and answer my emails.”
“Then I would also have time maybe to do some yoga and then have dinner with my family, and then watch something that I enjoy and go to bed,” she continues.
Amid that all, Moore admits, though, that she does like to still sneak in “a little bit of work,” explaining, “Maybe I shoot something or I’m working on a script, or I’m learning something.”

According to Moore, as she’s gotten older, she’s learned to make more time for herself — especially when it comes to her health.
“When you’re younger, you don’t think about much at all. I mean, you really feel impervious to everything, and to anything health and wellness related,” she says. “But I think, the more life you’ve accrued, the more precious it becomes.”

This outlook, Moore adds, is important, because now, as a mother, wife and more, she doesn’t just have herself to worry about.
“You have more people that you’re taking care of, you have more people that you love, and you realize that you depend on your body, and if something goes wrong with your body, then it really affects your function,” the star explains.

Moore studied theater at Boston University. After graduation, her first onscreen role was in a 1984 episode of the soap opera The Edge of Night.
The actress’ big break came a year later, when she was cast in another soap opera, As the World Turns, in which she played both roles of half-sisters Frannie and Sabrina Hughes. (She won a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Ingenue in a Drama Series for the part.)
Moore went on to take part in television and theater roles in the years to follow, before gaining wider recognition and establishing herself as a leading lady in Hollywood. Some of her most beloved projects include Boogie Nights, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 and Part 2, Magnolia, Far from Heaven, The Hours, The Big Lebowski and May December, to name a few.
Moore has been nominated five times at the Academy Awards, and she won in the Best Actress category for her film Still Alice in 2015. She has earned multiple SAG, Golden Globe and Emmy awards, and Moore has also scored wins at various industry events over the years, including the Cannes Film Festival and the Venice Film Festival.
Even with all the glitz, glamour and accolades, Moore tells PEOPLE her love of her craft is what means the most to her when it comes to her career in the entertainment industry. “The best part of my job is the actual working, is the doing of it, because that’s what keeps me coming back. I like that creative experience. I like going in somewhere and building it with a group of people,” she says.
