Joshua Jackson is sounding off on the cancellation of Doctor Odyssey after one season.
Speaking exclusively to PEOPLE, Jackson, 47, said he’s “always bummed out when a show gets canceled” and that he “really, really enjoyed the experience.”
“That was a really good group of people, and it was a really fun show,” he continued. “But this is a crazy and difficult business, and whatever the reasons were for them not wanting to move forward with it, they don’t actually tell us those things.”
“I’m going to miss the gang for sure,” he added.
Jackson shared a message to the show’s fans who showed up to watch every week.
“I hope they got the same thing that we got out of it, which was that it was a beautiful, over-the-top kind of experience that was like nothing else on television, I don’t think,” he said.

“I’m sad that we don’t get to go back and do it again,” he continued. “But I really enjoyed the time that we did get to do it.”
Jackson weighed in on the show’s future, as the show was canceled by default by ABC after the cast’s contracts expired on June 30.
“They may make that show with somebody else,” he said, noting that his contract “lapsed” as Deadline had previously reported.
“I have no idea what their plans are,” he admitted. “They haven’t let me know, but I am not holding my breath that it’s coming back.”
Jackson also praised series co-creator Ryan Murphy.
“He dreams up incredible worlds, and he puts together great teams, both in front of the camera and behind the camera,” he gushed. “So I know everybody from that show is going to be okay, everybody’s good. It’s a bummer we don’t get to do it again, but I’m happy for the time that we got.”
Jackson played Dr. Max Bankman, a new doctor aboard the luxury cruise ship The Odyssey, on the show.
The Dawson’s Creek alum starred alongside Phillipa Soo as Nurse Avery Morgan, Sean Teale as Nurse Tristan Silva and Don Johnson as Captain Robert Massey.
Doctor Odyssey was known for having notable guest stars, like country singers Shania Twain and Kelsea Ballerini, Glee alum Chord Overstreet, Showgirls star Gina Gershon, comedians Amy Sedaris and Margaret Cho, Full House alum John Stamos and more.

There was even a crossover with Angela Bassett’s 9-1-1 character Athena Grant-Nash making an appearance.
The show premiered in September 2024 and concluded its one-season run in May 2025.
