NEED TO KNOW
Jordin Sparks wants to know what your spark is.
The multihyphenate tells PEOPLE exclusively about her new podcast, aptly titled What’s Your Spark?. The trailer for her podcast on Dear Media debuted on Thursday, Oct. 9, and the premiere episode comes out on Sunday, Oct. 12.
Sparks, 35, says she found one of her sparks at an early age. “I was born with Sparks in my name, so I’ve had it since birth,” she quips.

“I feel like it depends on the person if they have one or they have multiple [sparks], but one spark for me is definitely singing, using my voice. I’ve known since I was very, very young that it was what I wanted to do,” the American Idol winner says.
“And singing in particular…I think I was 7 when I knew that it was what I was going to do. It’s plan A or plan A, that is what I want to be when I grow up, that’s what I want to do. I’ve always had that spark within me in terms of music.”

Sparks says her other spark is “helping people.” “I always want to lend a hand and I always want to make sure that people are happier or different in a positive way than when they first came and either met me or worked with me or was in a room with me.”
“I always want to leave people better than I found them, so that one has always been constant throughout my life as well.”
Sparks also tells PEOPLE that she hopes her podcast encourages curiosity. “I hope people become a little bit more curious about the world around them, whether it’s nature or people or even themselves.”
“I just hope that they get a little bit more curious about other things and other subjects or other people. Nowadays sometimes we try to be like, okay, you find people who are like-minded and that’s it and you kind of just stick with that,” she continues.
“And I feel like it’s a disservice to how beautiful this world is, how different we all are, how much is incredible and beautiful in nature and creation, so I really hope people become a little bit more curious about that.”
As for her dream guest, Sparks wants to cook up a conversation with this chef. “I would love to have Gordon Ramsay on the podcast,” says Sparks. “I just would love to pick his brain.”

In the podcast’s first episode, Sparks “shares what the experience of winning American Idol at just 17 years old was really like, what was happening at home during this time, and the ways that being on television as a teenager informed the rest of her life as an artist, friend, and mother,” per a press release.
She will also open up about “the lessons she’s been taught along her journey, her creativity and passions, and a few tears looking back at all the important moments that led her to this very moment in time.”
