The judging panel of Netflix’s Star Search is fittingly star-studded.
On Tuesday, Jan. 6, the streaming platform announced its upcoming revival of the hit talent competition series will feature a judging panel of Jelly Roll, Chrissy Teigen and Sarah Michelle Gellar.
Anthony Anderson will host Netflix’s Star Search, which will air live on the streaming platform over five weeks starting on Jan. 20. Episodes will air on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 9 p.m. ET with viewers voting in real time using their TV remote or Netflix app.
“The talent is bigger, the stakes are higher and the format is more interactive than ever,” read an official logline for the show from Netflix. “Each episode will spotlight the best up-and-coming performers across numerous categories — music, dance, variety, comedy, magic and juniors — as they compete head to head for their shot at stardom.”
The statement continued, “With an arced competition structure and weekly eliminations with real-time global voting, the series builds dramatic momentum, making every live episode an unmissable event.”
The original Star Search ran from 1983 to 1995, followed by a revival from 2003 to 2004. Stars like Beyoncé, Justin Timberlake, Christina Aguilera, Britney Spears, Dave Chappelle and Adam Sandler appeared on the show before becoming the superstars they are today.
“The show that launched the greatest stars of our time is back,” said Anderson in a teaser video for the upcoming Netflix revival. “The next great star will be discovered.”

In a recent interview with TMZ, Star Search and American Idol alum David Archuleta said he’s “gonna be interested to see what happens” with Netflix’s new version of the series.
The “Crush” singer also reflected on his time on Star Search. “I was in semifinals with two other singers who are still doing their thing. I was with Tori Kelly and with Joel James, so it’s kind of funny to see,” he continued, noting that he’d “be up for” judging the show.
